photoAye! It’s the Highland Games!

You’ll be seein’ a wheen o’ lads n’ lassies, kilties, n’ bonnie wee dugs at the Hielan Games, Sir!

Translation: You’ll be seeing a lot of guys and gals, folks wearing kilts, and lovely dogs at the Highland Games!

Yes, it’s that time of year again when a’ the Scots gather t’gither and celebrate their culture, their customs, their crafts, their music, their skills . . . and they listen to the skirl o’ the bagpipes!

Ah, the pipes! There are some folk that dinna like the pipes. Can ye imagine such a thing!? And then there are others who love the pipe so much that grown men will have a wee drap to wipe away from their een. (eyes).

They’ll be having Massed Bagpipe Bands, Highland Dances, Drum Major and bagpipe and drumming competitons, sheepdog trials, caber tossing, the hammer throw, the Scottish Country Dancing, and you’ll nae doubt hear a wee bit o’ the brogue as well, Aye.

For those away frae Scotland, it’ll be a wee chance to hear the auld tongue again, to enjoy the music and dances from the homeland, as well as the food. Aye, there’ll be tatties and bangers as well as a chance to savour a Haggis. (For those not blessed to be frae Bonnie Scotland, a Haggis is a sausage. That’s a’ ye need to ken (know).

It all commences on Saturday and Sunday, June 26th and 27th, from 9am to 5pm, with opening ceremonies each day at noon.

It’s the 37th Annual San Diego Scottish Highland Games and Gathering of the Clans. If you’ve never attended one before you are in for a treat. If you have been there before you know what to expect and you may begin to grin effective immediately.

The weatherman has promised to cooperate and deliver outstanding weather . . . the event, held at the beautiful, newly remodeled Brengle Terrace Park, 1200 Vale Terrace Drive in Vista, is right near the new amphitheatre.

Chances are we’ll be roaming the gloamin’ and enjoying the sights and sounds o’ bonnie Scotland. We’ll be tapping our toes to “Scotland the Brave” and all the other fine Scottish tunes. And we’ll be enjoying the fine lads and lassies as they do the Highland Dancing. We’ll hope to see you there as it promises to be a grand two day event!
