The Paper Primary Endorsements
Governor: Steve Poizner
We have followed Poizner’s career in the academic world, in the business world, and as California Insurance Commissioner. In every instance, he succeeded brilliantly. He promises strong enforcement of the law in protecting us against illegal immigration.
Attorney General: John Eastman
A strong Conservative, a Constitutional Attorney, a Law School Dean.
US Senator: Chuck DeVore
Admittedly a long shot, DeVore is going against the big money of Carly Fiorina and politically connected Tom Campbell. DeVore is a strong Conservative, enjoys the support of the Tea Parties, worked in the White House on Foreign Affairs. It’s an uphill battle. We believe he’s the best vote for the job.
US Congress: District 50
Republican: Brian Bilbray
Bilbray runs unopposed from the Republican side. He is recognized as a major Conservative voice. We are endorsing Bilbray, however, if you absolutely must vote for a Democrat I would urge you to consider . . .
Democrat: Tracy Emblem
While it’s doubtful the Democrats can unseat Bilbray, we are impressed with the tireless efforts of Tracy Emblem. We are not endorsing her . . . but tip our chapeau to her. She’s a brilliant attorney and worked successfully to free an innocent man from prison. We are not impressed with her opponent, Francine Busby. If you intend on voting Democratic, we urge you support Emblem, not Busby.
US Congress: District 51
Nick Popaditch
Strongly against illegal immigration, strong Conservative, urges less government, a more secure nation. Enjoys endorsement of Governor Mike Huckabee. Silver Star winner as a Marine Gunnery Sergeant. He gets our nod.
Us Congress: District 52
Duncan D. Hunter
A Captain in the US Marines Reserve, Hunter has served his nation in a combat zone; enjoys a huge lists of endorsements from key political figures as well as from commerce and industry. He represents strong Conservative core values.
US Congress: District 53
Michael Crimmins
Is a retired Marine Major, known to be a salty fighter, ready to take on all comers. We like that attitude. It also happens he is up against Mason Weaver, a candidate we exposed in a cover story back in 2001. We documented in that issue that he was a liar. Weaver is NOT the type of person I want in government. It’s hard enough to get bad guys out of government, worse to put them in. Vote Crimmins.
San Diego County Sheriff:
Jay LaSeur.
A tough decision.
We like Jim Duffy. Very amiable, easy to talk to. Both Duffy and Jay LaSeur gave excellent speeches to the Escondido Republican Club several months ago. The current appointed Sheriff, Bill Gore, did not impress the audience. I felt he hurt himself badly. Both LaSeur and Duffy were impressive speakers. We are concerned that Duffy is too closely tied to the Unions. We already have pensions that are outrageously high. While La Seur is somewhat pompous, a bit stuffy in person, he is strongly in favor of enforcing the law against illegal immigration. A tough call, but we’re endorsing LaSeur. We have to have leaders in place that will enforce the law.
Proposition 16:
This is the proposition the utilities are spending big money on. They don’t want municipalities to have the ability to form their own utilities. They want to protect their not so little monopoly. The utilities already have us under their thumb. They want us to vote to require a 2/3rds vote to enable municipalities to form their own utilities.
Bunk. They already have that. This is a no brainer. Vote NO on Prop 16. Vote NO against the Big Money utilities.
