13th Annual Dixon Lake Trout Derby - Courtesy Hidden Valley Kiwanis Club
Area anglers are already limbering up their fishing rods and getting lures, baits, tackle boxes all ready for the big Trout Derby on Saturday and Sunday, May 1st and 2nd at Escondido’s Dixon Lake.
This is the 13th year the Hidden Valley Kiwanis Club of Escondido will have staged this event. The city of Escondido always plants a large supply of rainbow trout a few days before the derby, so there are plenty of hungry trout cruising the lake.
Invariably, the Hidden Valley Kiwanis Club comes up with not only outstanding prizes for largest trout caught each day, but largest trout for the derby, as well as a variety of ‘opportunity drawings’ that are held at the close of the two day event.
The derby kicks off at 6am Saturday and runs till 5pm; on Sunday at 6am, and is over at 4pm. Prizes are awarded at the close of the derby.
Adult fishing permits are $14, Seniors and Youth are $10; all day boats with motor are $35, all day rowboats $17, 1/2 day boats with motor are $30, half day rowboats are $14. In addition to a daily Dixon Lake fishing permit, all anglers are required to have a valid California fishing license, both of which are available at the concession office.
