Outrage Toward
Olga Diaz
Dear Editor:
I have been outraged since I read the article in the North Conty Times a few days ago that Escondido City Council Member Olga Diaz wrote a letter to California's Attorney General questioning the legality of Chief Maher's decision to conduct driver's license checkpoints. I trust she did not write that letter on City stationery without approval of a Council majority.
Several years ago I was hit by an unknown driver on N. Escondido Boulevard. The van that hit me and caused $8,000 damage to my vehicle ran off without even finding out if I was injured. The thing that irritated me the most and the reason I filed a police report was because there were children in the vehicle. They had apparently just picked up their children from school. Why would someone "hit & run" unless they were breaking the law (unlicensed driver with probably no insurance). They set a "nice" example for their children, didn't they?!
Thomas Collimore's letter of April 5th, NCTimes (Chief Maher has a lot of support) pretty much sums up my feelings about these checkpoints.

Two Men on a Mission
Barack Obama elected President, pledged to "fundamentally transform America" and sworn to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. The other, Glenn Beck, dedicated to the preservation of America under the Constitution, "sweet land of liberty, land of the pilgrims pride, let freedom ring."
Both men have their detractors. Glenn Beck has been maligned as a demagogue and personally attacked, rather than disputing the facts he uncovers from investigation and research that would challenge his integrity and intent. His popularity and audience as an author, radio and television personality continues to grow, perhaps because of his credibility in seeking the truth. He could also serve as a role model just in the manner he has lifted himself up, after personally hitting rock bottom.
On Saturday, April 3, 2010, on an hour TV program, he interviewed three authors, Joshua Ramo who wrote, "The Age of the Unthinkable,” Ben Sherwood who wrote "The Survivor's Club" and Bruce Feiler who wrote "America's Prophet;" three different books with a common thread. They support Glenn Beck's belief that Faith, Hope and Charity interwoven with the Ten Commandments are the foundation for America's salvation.
Glenn Beck's style may be controversial or offensive to some but it is difficult to question his motive and good intentions. He is a man who passionately loves his country and wants to see America free from the bondage of a flawed political system that tolerates self serving, controlling, career politicians.
One hundred Senators, four hundred thirty five Congressmen, one President and nine Supreme Court Justices out of 300 million population are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country. Glenn Beck wants to hold these "leaders" accountable but he can't do it alone. It depends on all concerned citizens. Hopefully the Tea Parties. In spite of their being under malicious attack and falsely mislabeled, they will have a positive political influence for the country in the months ahead. God Bless America!
