The Day Before Christmas

Well, boys and girls, moms and dads . . . it’s that time of year again.

Yes, it’s time for Raul, the Christmas Elf, to get extra busy making more fine, fine mattresses over at Santa’s showroom and warehouse, Escondido Mattress Company.

Raul has been reporting directly to Santa’s Chief Helper for the Southland, Randy Taylor, for years. Together they have made Escondido Mattress Company just like Santa’s own showroom. Folks, the place is loaded with beautiful mattresses, hand crafted by Raul, the Christmas Elf, and by Randy Taylor himself. (Keep this quiet but if Randy Taylor would gain a bit of weight and grow a beard, why he’d look a lot like ol’ Santa himself).

He’s not quite as old as Santa, however, no sir, Randy is a young puppy. Why, he’s only been here in Escondido for 55 years . . . and Santa has been around for a lot longer than that.

Yep, ol’ Randy set up shop here in Escondido in 1954 and he’s been here ever since. Oh, he’d like to retire, but folks just won’t let him. He makes such good mattresses that they wind up sending their kids to buy mattresses from Randy . . . and their cousins . . . and their neighbors.

Demand got so heavy Randy had to hire himself a Christmas Elf and then things got so busy that Christmas Elf just stayed on and worked year ‘round. Raul joined Randy about 12 years ago and they’ve been together ever since.

Raul is only about 3’ 11” tall and while Randy has learned to speak Elf they both get along fine whenever folks who speak English happen by. Spanish speakers as well.

Just t’other day Randy was telling Raul, the Elf, that they’d probably have to work longer than normal between Christmas and New Year’s because so many folks wanted the fine, quality mattresses that Escondido Mattress puts out that even their large showroom with their great big inventory couldn’t keep up with demand. So, while you , folks are snug in your beds, dreamin’ of sugar plums and computer games and all, Randy Taylor and his loyal, trustworthy Chief Elf, Raul, from the Villapando Family of Elves, will be busy sewing and stitching and putting together more quality mattresses.

“Oh, these customers of mine,” says Randy, “they know our quality is top notch and enjoy doing business with a good, honorable, caring people. Whether it’s a mattress for a crib, a standard size, or antique, we’re up to the task. My customers keep coming back,” he says. “We’ve made and sold mattresses to the children of some of our customers. They know we care and they know quality when they see it. Or sleep on it.”
