Today will be my final installment of financial matters. I hope when you read this you are well, happy and more financially knowledgeable than before I began writing the column so many months ago.
First allow me to thank your editor Lyle Davis and “The Paper” itself for allowing me to come to you monthly to discuss financial topics. I believed these topics important for the simple reason in assisting you in arming yourselves with information you need to make better investment decisions.
I hope my column gave you insight into the varied topics in financial planning. I believe everyone needs to be better informed because the simple truth is there is a growing divide between Wall Street and Main Street. New products are being produced at an alarming rate (see the downfall of AIG) and while Wall Street is being protected by our Federal Government, remember the “to big to fail lie,” no one is looking out for you here on Main Street. Well that’s not totally true. There are hundreds if not thousands of ethical and competent Financial Advisors in your marketplace just waiting to talk to you.
One thing I have learned from my years in the financial services industry is change is constant. Look at the year upcoming, 2010 – Health care reform will take center stage, Roth IRA converting will take place, taxes will increase so will inflation, etc… Change. It happens when you are not looking. I challenge everyone who reads this column to commit to do financial planning in 2010, regardless of the fact if you are just starting your career or if you are winding down your career. Get help. Whether you are young or old, find an advisor, if you are wealthy or of little means, talk to an advisor. Please spend more time on your finances in 2010 than you would on your vacation; it’s to your advantage to do so.
As for me, I am merging my firms into a larger company effective January 1st. In doing so I have accepted the role of Vice President of the Financial Products for the firm and this firm is outside of California.
As much as my family and I have enjoyed our time in California, it’s time to move. I cherish my business relationships, our clients and my friendship. California will always be a big part of my business and personal life.
Once again allow me to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to communicate with each and every one of you and the opportunity to assist your financial well being. Good luck and great investing.
