Nelly
Nelly is a sweet Retriever/Pit Bull mix who is brown & white. She is spayed. A loving girl who is a bit shy when you first meet her, she usually bonds with people quickly and overcomes her shyness. Nelly weighs 48 pounds, and is good with gentle dogs and calm, patient people. She knows the command to 'sit,' and will do just about anything for a treat. She rides well in the car and sits quietly. A sensation harness works best for her when she is walked, but she could be trained to walk on a leash. She is a mellow and sweet dog who would make a wonderful addition to your family. Nelly is in the Central shelter, 5480 Gaines Street, San Diego (619) 236-4250. For more information, or to meet her, have these numbers handy when you call or visit the shelter: My ID number is A1308975, My neck-tag number is C363, and my kennel number is C076. Nelly is up-to-date with routine shots.

Splenda the Pooch, Needs New Knees
This is a stoy about a Maltese-Poo pooch who has bum knees. Technically, it’s called luxating patellas. This type of condition requires the attention of an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in small animals. Normally, you’re looking at a $5000 surgery bill to fix the problem.
A young lady, Laurel Elting by name, adopted this pup from the Escondido Humane Society. In the course of the post-adoption vet exam, the problem was discovered. The Escondido Humane Society immediately offered to take the pup back, which offer was gratefully declined by Ms. Elting. She had already grown attached to the pup. The Society also agreed to refund the adoption fee and even made their veterinary surgeon and the operating theatre available to repair the problems, The vet surgeon agreed to do the surgery at her cost. The cost plummeted form $5000 to $2800. But it’s still $2800 Laurel has to come up with.
Laurel, the Escondido Humane Society, and the Veterinary Surgeon are all working together to solve the problem. Now they need you, the public to jump in and help, if you can. If you are so inclined, you may want to brush away those dusty cobwebs from your ancient purse and send a shilling or two, or even a quid, to:

Yes, they are cutie pies.
And they’re so new they don’t yet have names. We’ll leave that to you.
Naming a kitten is a special act, best left to the new kitten’s family of humans.
Check them out! At the Escondido Humane Society
