Two Days of Bingo Scheduled at St. Mary's Fiesta

A two-day Bingo game, open to the public, will be hosted by the Fiesta Committee of St. Mary's Church, 1160 So. Broadway, Escondido. The winners will receive cash prizes. Scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, October 10 and 11, in the church parish hall, the games begin at 1pm on Saturday, and 11am on Sunday. Cost to enter is $15 for ten games, with reduced amounts for additional games. Call Wayne for more information, at 760.310.6276.
In addition, the Committee will host Poker at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 515 West Valley Parkway, on Friday evening, October 9th. Call Jeff at 1.858.722.5240 for more information. All funds raised on these two events will be used to build a pastoral center.

Whirlaways Square Dance Club to Start Classes

The Whirlaways Square Dance Club is offering an introduction to modern Square Dancing class starting Monday, October 5th at 6:30pm, at the Joslyn Senior Center, 210 Park Avenue, Escondido. Humane Society Offers No Cost and Half-off Dog Adoptions

The Escondido Humane Society is offering an "Adopt a Buddy" dog adoption special for those who want to add another canine companion to their family.

Until the end of October, which is Adopt-A-Shelter Dog Month, anyone who has adopted from the Humane Society in the past year (since September 2008), and has proof of adoption, can adopt an adult dog or puppy at no cost. All adopters from the past year are eligible, including those who took home a bunny or cat. First-time adopters haven't been forgotten. Also until the end of October, all new adopters can take home a dog or puppy for 50% off the regular adoption fees.

Palomar Estates East to Hold Annual Holiday Gifts Sale

Every year Palomar Estates East has an annual hand-crafted holiday gifts and rummage sale, and this year it will be on Saturday, October 3rd, from 8am to 2pm. There will be something for everyone on the 30 tables of treasures - everything from antiques to tools to jewelry to housewares, and everything in between. Doors will not open until 8am. Woman's Club Meeting to Feature Irv Erdos

The luncheon meeting of the Woman's Club of Escondido will be on Monday, October 5th, at 10:30am, at their Clubhouse, 751 North Rose Street (corner Mission Ave.). Cost is $9/person. Hadassah Group Chartering and Installation Announced

Chofit Hadassah announces the Chartering and Installation of Officers. Join them under the stars and in the Sukkah at Temple Solel, 3575 Manchester Avenue, Cardiff By The Sea. The date is Wednesday, October 7, at 7pm. Family and friends are welcome. Madeline Goodman will be the Chartering Officiant, Janice Alper will be the guest speaker, and Yael Gmash will do the musical entertainment. Dessert will be served. Jumpin' Jamboree at Green Oak Ranch

The 2nd Annual Jumpin' Jamboree will be held on Saturday, October 10, starting at 12Noon. This is a collaborated event with more than 20 North County Christian Churches. The event will feature The Evans Brothers Band, a Magic Show by Nugget, Petting Zoo, Green Oak Ranch Catering and Holy Smoke BBQ Buffet, silent and live auctions, Bounce House, Gospel and DooWop concert by Santos at 6pm, hay rides and train rides, cowboy, western show, and a large yard sale.

Escondido Democrats to Discuss City Planning for Future Development

The October meeting of the Escondido Democratic Club will feature Jonathan Brindle, Escondido Director of Community Planning, who will discuss "Escondido's General Plan Update: The Community's Opportunity to Shape its Future."

Learn and Improve Boating Skills

A Boating Skills and Seamanship class is being offered by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, starting at 7pm, on October 13th, at the Escondido Chamber of Commerce, 720 No. Broadway, Escondido. Subjects will cover Rules of the Road, Legal Equipment Requirements, Boat Handling, and many other important subjects.

Whelan Lake Bird Walk

You can join Buena Vista Audubon Society members for a bird walk at Whelan Lake, always on the first Saturday of the month at 8am. That's this Saturday, October 3rd. This is a bird sanctuary not usually open to the public, with a freshwater lake and riparian edge habitat. Early fall migrants may be flying in. Take I-5 to Hwy. 76; turn left at Douglas and continue to light at North River Road. Turn left and meet at cul-de-sac by entrance gate. For information, the leader is John Haddock, 760.941.7824.

Water Conservation Will Be Topic at Democratic Club Meeting

On Saturday, October 10, at 1pm, the Lake San Marcos Democratic Club will meet. The topic of the month will be Water Conservation and the Drought. Alicia Yerman and Torrey Webb from the Vallecitos Water District will have a power point presentation, followed by Rachel Borgatti who will have a slide show and speak about the water quality problems of the Lake San Marcos lake. Ms. Borgatti is Supervisor of Education and Outreach for the Watershed Protection Program for the County of San Diego.

Habitat for Humanity Partners with Macy's for Fundraising


Macy's is partnering with San Diego Habitat for Humanity. Habitat is selling $5 passes for the Macy's "Shop for a Cause" Campaign which gives shoppers exclusive savings in every Macy's store on Saturday, October 17th. San Diego Habitat for Humanity receives 100% of the proceeds of passes sold. The goal is to sell 200 passes. The Donation is $5 each.

Passholders will receive 25% off on any single regular, sale or clearance fashion item for the entire family including accessories and selections for the home. A $500 Macy's Gift Card will also be available by entering a contest. With the 25% savings, a purchase of $20 or more covers the cost of the Shopping Pass.
