Patti Page Held Book Signing at Welk Theatre
Recently Patti Page held a book signing at the Welk Theatre. There was a great turnout to hear her 20-minute talk and she sang two songs: "Tennessee Waltz" and "How Much Is That Doggie In The Window?" She then opened up for questions from the audience, after which there was a long line to buy CD's and her book, "This Is My Song." She is a very gracious lady; lives in Solana Beach, and just may be interviewed soon on Doug Best's radio show which airs Saturday mornings from 7am to 12Noon on KKSM, 1320 AM, Palomar College Radio. Film "Beyond Organic" to be Shown in Vista
On Friday evening, August 28 at 7pm, the award-winning film "Beyond Organic" will be shown in Vista, followed by a discussion of ethical eating, food, and environmental justice. This showing is free and open to the public. Doors will open and refreshments will be available at 6:30pm, at the Palomar Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1600 Buena Vista Drive, in the Shadowridge section of Vista. Call 760.758.2410 for more information.
"Beyond Organic" is the true story of a farm near Santa Barbara, California, battling for survival in the face of suburban development. From the Best Science Film, Science Books and Films Journal, it is "A thought-provoking, visually stunning video. The quality of production is excellent, allowing the program to be entertaining while raising underlying questions for further discussion on topics such as urban sprawl and development, community and social interactions, organic farming, future directions for urban agriculture, and community-supported agriculture (CSA). The comparisons of the connections among land, culture, and community in the more traditional agriculture of many countries and the trend to megafarms in North American are particularly striking."

"Wordswork" Free Play Reading Series to Feature "Seascape"
"Seascape," Edward Albee's Pulitzer prize-winning play, is presented as a Community Outreach project by the Moonlight Cultural Foundation (MCF) as part of its fourth annual "WordsWork" free play-reading series. Part domestic comedy-drama, part satire, part science fiction and part philosophy debate, Seascape tells the story of a troubled American couple facing tensions in their relationship as they contemplate retirement. Their visit to an east coast beach is enlivened by the unexpected appearance of another couple, who join them in wide-ranging discussions of trust, communications, human progress, evolution, empathy and more.
Edward Albee is generally regarded as America's greatest living playwright. He is also one of its bravest and most versatile, and none of his plays proves this more than his 1975 "Seascape," which won him the second of his three Pulitzer prizes for drama and starred Deborah Kerr and Barry Nelson.
Directed by Jackie Cuccaro, the free play reading of "Seascape" is Monday, September 14, at Avo Playhouse, 303 Main Street, Vista. Open seating; doors open at 7pm with the performance at 7:30pm. Forum follows. For additional information, call 760.630.7650.
