OneKind Foundation Shares Information with Rotary Club

Alison King and Rachel Forseth of the OneKind non-profit Foundation spoke to the Shadowridge Vista Rotary Club about their goals and accomplishments. The recent Buena Vista graduates organized a Walk-a-thon last year that raised $20,000 to help sponsor school children in war torn Uganda. Their group believes that education is the key to change and that youth can make a difference in their local and global communities. The organization expects to raise $25,000 in their Walk-a-thon later this year, to sponsor school children in Cambodia. For more information, email them at

“Diamond is Forever! to Play Tomorrow Night in Ramona

Escondido’s own David Sherry, well known Neil Diamond Tribute artist, presents his “Diamond Is Forever!” show tomorrow night, Friday, August 21st, 2009 at the beautifully renovated historic Ramona Mainstage, featuring a state-of-the-art theater/lounge with fabulous sound and lighting systems rivaling the best. Wrangler Square Dance Group Schedules Classes

photoModern Square Dance classes for beginners will open on September 9 and 16, for those who want to learn basic square dance calls and enjoy the many mental and physical benefits of this type of dancing. No experience is necessary; attire is casual; and all ages 10 or older are welcome.

Families, couples, singles, and groups of friends are invited to join the fun. Classes will be held from 7-9pm on Wednesdays at Rolling Hills Elementary School, 15255 Penasquitos Drive in Rancho Penasquitos. The class on September 9 is free, and classes that follow are $32 per person every 8 weeks (each class is $4 when paid 8 weeks in advance). The Platt Brothers Coming to Escondido

On Sunday, August 23, the Platt Brothers, a Comedy, Dance, Acrobatics, and Music family will be appearing at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, from 12Noon to 2:30pm. Center Stage Productions, featuring The Platt Brothers, will be holding their annual fundraiser lunch and talent show, called the "Standing Room Only Fundraiser." Tim Sheahan to Speak at EMPAC Meeting

On Thursday, August 27, at 7pm, the Escondido Mobile/Manufactured Home Positive Action Committee (EMPAC) will meet in the Grove Room in the main building of the East Valley Parkway Community Center, 2245 East Valley Parkway, Escondido. Vision for Education Auction Opens Bidding

The annual Vision for Education Auction opens for bidding on August 21, at 8am. The goal for this auction is to raise $15,000 to support the Insight Vision Center's Vision for education Program. Your support is needed, and this is a fun and exciting way to do that, and at the same time have a chance to win items.

Adult Education and Venture Classes to Feature Artist

Holly Hertig has been an artist all her life and a teacher all her adult life. Holly has been teaching art in the Poway Unified Adult Education Program for almost three years. Her classes at Rancho Bernardo High School are on Tuesdays from 9am-12Noon and 6-9pm. She will be teaching five Wednesday nights from September 16 through October 14 at the Palomar College San Marcos Campus, Venture program, from 6:30-8:30pm. The Escondido Art Association's featured artist for the month of September is Emily Roberson, (see photo right) a past president of the Association. Her artwork will be on display during the month of September at the Escondido Public Library, 239 So. Kalmia Street. Her award-winning paintings are done in watercolor, acrylic or pastel. Additionally, on Saturday, September 12, from 11am to 2pm, many of her prints and notecards will be available for your viewing pleasure.

Rancho Bernardo Fall Festival at 4S Ranch

Sunday, November 1, from 10am to 4pm, the Rancho Bernardo Fall Festival will be held at the 4S Ranch Street Fair, on Camino del Norte at Dove Canyon Road. The 6th Annual Festival will have approximately 250 booths, a stage, a food court, and kid zone.

A Taste of Escondido Returns

Festival of Escondido returns this year as A Taste of Escondido. This one day event offers a great selection of Escondido’s best food, music, art, wine and beer to ticket holders.

A Taste of Escondido will be held Saturday September 19, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00p.m on Grand Avenue in the heart of Downtown Escondido. Admission and a sampling of dishes from more than 15 participating restaurants and live music is $15.
