The Daily News Cafe
by lyle e davis
Having just spent some time at our time share at Tamarack Beach Resort in Carlsbad, we had occasion to visit some of the local eateries, one of which was The Daily News Cafe, adjacent to the Carlsbad Inn.
Lovely outdoor eating area that is sheltered from the sun and birds, but ideal for people watching; inside dining is equally comfortable. Fun to watch the wait staff zipping in and out of the kitchen, delivering and picking up orders for their patrons. Friendly, courteous, very well trained wait staff, but very businesslike. They don’t waste a lot of time . . . get the order, be nice to the patron, turn the order in, present the order to the patron, and move, move, move. That wait staff works hard but when they wait on your table you are King and Queen. They focus on you and give you every attention.
The same attention to detail is found in the kitchen. An excellent menu, quite reasonably priced. Omelettes run from $6 to $9.95. The first morning I had simple two eggs, toast, sauteed red potatoes and toast for $6.75. Very filling, very tasty, served very promptly. Evelyn had bacon and eggs for $6.25 with all the trimmings.
The second morning I had a Crepe filled with scrambled eggs, avocado and cheese, with a fruit cup for $6.75. Evelyn had a half order of biscuits and gravy, $2.75 together with oatmeal with fresh fruit, $4.00.
It’s a comfortable, homey place. Good people, good food, good service, good ambience . . it’s all there at The Daily News Cafe, 3001 A Carlsbad Boulevard, Carlsbad, CA. 760.729.1023.
Admit it. You’ve been looking for an excuse to go to the beach, haven’t you?
Now you’ve got another excuse to go. Check out this jasper, lyle e davis, and his restaurant reviews. See if he really knows what he’s talking about. (If you know lyle you know he hasn’t missed many meals . . . and he knows good food and service when he sees it!) Bon appetit!
