Doesn’t like French Jokes
Dear sir:
I am writing to express my dismay at the "Chuckles" section in your recent issue, that was such blatant French-bashing. Humor that serves to vilify any race, nationality or ethnic group is not only inappropriate but unacceptable. As an English/Irish American, without a drop of French blood, I am nevertheless disappointed and offended. This wasn't funny, silly, or amusing, it was mean-spirited and divisive. I hope it will not be repeated. Thank you,

Disagrees With Chief Maher on Licenses for Illegal Aliens
Regarding Chief Maher's recent statements to the media about his personal poltical opinion endorsing drivers licenses for illegal aliens, most Americans believe that any form of government ID for illegal aliens is just wrong! You should get ZERO benefits if you are in our country illegally! Millions of illegals obey the law and don't drive, but we are supposed to use scarce government resources to cater to the aliens that do break the law? What country are we living in? When we start adjusting our laws to accommodate the criminals who refuse to obey our laws and respect our borders, our Republic is in deep trouble!
Try driving illegally in Mexico and see what happens. Or walk into their DMV and ask for a Mexican drivers license!
Like Gray Davis and La Raza, Chief Maher is dead wrong on this issue!

Optimistically Yours
Dear Editor:
My wife was on some training at the Carlsbad Inn recently and she picked up a copy of your paper. We are members of the Sunrise Optimist Club of Imperial Valley.
The news item on the Oceanside Optimist Club caught her attention. She brought the paper home for me to see. I was impressed. Both with your efforts, and your politics. There are about 40 Optimist Clubs in San Diego and Imperial Counties. We work to help the youth of our communities. It is always appreciated when we get some recognition. It helps in recruiting.
Keep up the good work. I really enjoyed reading your publication.

Letters to the Editor are always welcome.
Please limit your submission to 250 words. As always, we reserve the right to edit for length, content, and good taste.
We prefer submittals via email. Please send to:
thepaper@cox.net but will accept faxed copies and regular mail. We will, however, screech mightily if and when we receive them because, being lazy, we don’t like to have to retype Letters to the Editor or Press Releases. With email it’s a lot quicker and easier to edit.
If you have an item for The Social Butterfly, you can email that to: TheSocialButterfly@cox.net
Readers are expected to comport themselves at all times as ladies and gentlemen. Seeing as how that's all that reads The Paper, that should be easy.
We require your name, address, and phone number so we can verify the letter. We will not, however, publish your address or phone number.
