Support for Chief Maher
I support Police Chief, Jim Maher, and all the officers under his command. Why wouldn't I? Why wouldn't every resident of Escondido support him? After all, he is doing exactly what he was hired to do as well as what we, the citizens of Escondido expect him to do.
He is to ensure our safety by curtailing crime including without exception the enforcing of the State of California Vehicle Code that governs vehicular traffic on highways and roads including our city streets. Also, I can't imagine why anyone with a brain larger than a pinhead would not want to support Jim Maher as Police Chief.
Unlicensed drivers can not be tolerated on our roads and streets regardless of their race, gender or political persuasion. Chief Maher is to be highly complimented on his efforts to eliminate unlicensed and uninsured drivers from our streets.
Folks, It's a public safety issue and has not one thing to do with racial discrimination. Maybe other countries don't require driver licenses, but in the United States a valid license is mandatory.

More Thoughts on The Chief
I don't want to be police chief. There is no way to please everyone.
The chief's primary job is to keep his community safe. The current controversy over license checkpoint stops is about unlicensed drivers. Hit and runs are agonizing. Those who have been involved in a hit and run are definitely victims as are their families and friends.
If the question is how to protect the illegals, the sad fact is someone who is illegal is a risk taker by definition. The strong majority of illegal immigrants are good people but, we all live here and we all are subject to our laws.
To be the chief of police you must be brave and thick skinned.

No On 1A
Ballots have been mailed for the May 19th special election. Chances are you have received yours. At stake is nothing less than the fiscal health of California. Politicians, in their typical fashion, want to continue business as usual. For the average family that equates to paying an additional $1100 a year in taxes so we continue catering to special interests.
We must vote no on proposition 1A. The only thing it promises are continued tax increases with easily bypassed spending caps. Bypassing the spending cap requires nothing more than increasing revenues (taxes, fees, etc). The “rainy day” fund guarantees nothing but a savings goal. The question is how does the state save money when it has to raise taxes to continue business as usual?
It is time to fundamentally change the way California spends money. Business as usual has brought us to the brink of collapse. Please visit www.StopTaxingUs.com and see our Prop 1A-F tab where we have further information. It is time for the voters to lead, because our leaders have failed.

And Still More . . .
Escondido Councilmember Olga Diazs' recent railings against Escondido Police Chief Jim Mahar, disparaged the issue of police safety checkpoints, which according to all evidence, have been a great success in terms of removing illegal and dangerous drivers from our roads.
Ms. Diaz along with Victor Torres and Bill Flores of El Grupo, frequently whine about how the good citizens of Escondido and their police department are a bunch of racist bigots who've sullied Escondido's good name and reputation locally and nationally. No, it's the tens of thousands of illegals (mostly Latino's from Mexico) in Escondido and their radical proponents who are causing all the trouble and brought negative national attention to our community.
Evidently, Torres, Flores and Diaz, believe Latino's should be completely exempt from the same police checkpoint scrutiny that the rest of us are subject to. These anti rule of law agitators frequently invoke the ACLU in an obvious attempt to bully, threaten and intimidate our police and others who would dare speak out against the ill effects of the illegal alien invasion from Mexico, which is a socio, economic and demographic disaster of epic proportions.
Chief Jim Maher, who also had many of his dedicated and professional officers in Council Chambers to support him, graciously, patiently, and politely kept redirecting a defiant Ms. Diaz, to the facts; facts which Diaz had no desire to entertain because they didn't fit into her racist, pro Latino/illegal alien, anti rule of law, agenda.
Chief Maher, all his dedicated officers, Councilmembers Sam Abed and Marie Waldron, are to be commended for reducing the extremely high felony hit and run rate (many committed by illegal alien Latinos).
How dare Torres, Diaz, Flores, et al, continually race bait/stoke this issue by harassing, haranguing and insulting our police and citizenry. Please contact Chief Maher at 760 839 4706 or e mail at jmaher@escondido.org to show your support of traffic safety checkpoints.

Another Maher Admirer
Thank you Chief Jim Maher!
After reading the April 22nd NCT article, "El Grupo calls for Escondido to replace police chief," I want to publicly express my support for Chief Jim Maher's use of proactive measures such as driver's license and sobriety check points in order to remove lawbreakers from our streets.
Using these well organized check points, the Police Dept. is sending the message that people should NOT be driving while intoxicated, without a license or without insurance. People who are violating the law should pay the price for their law-breaking.
As a lifelong resident of Escondido, I'm extremely grateful to Chief Maher and the men and women comprising our police Force. Under Chief Maher's capable leadership, our police are a well-trained, disciplined, dedicated group who willingly put their lives on the line to ensure a safe community.
El Grupo laments the fact that ILLEGAL aliens are fearful. Hint: Don't break the law and you will have nothing to fear. It's really quite simple! 'The Group' is unhappy because lawbreakers are being caught. Hear! Hear! That's exactly why Chief Maher should be commended. Catch the lawbreakers! Punish the lawbreakers!
Shame on El Grupo! Instead of supporting law enforcement efforts, in my opinion 'The Group' chooses to poison the minds of the Latino community. NOW is the time for law-abiding citizens of Escondido to take a stand. Make your choice. Do you want our City Council to buckle to a fringe group like El Grupo, a group that wants our Police Officers to look the other way and let people break the law? Or, do you want to stand tall for the rule-of-law by sending a note of thanks to Chief Maher for his steadfast commitment to ensuring our safety? To support the Chief, please call: (760) 839-4706 or e-mail jmaher@escondido.org.

More on the Chief
El Grupo is attacking Police Chief Maher for one reason and one reason only; he's doing his job effectively. They convict themselves out of their own mouths; they fear because they are law-breakers. Because they are law-breakers we shouldn't enforce our laws except maybe the one's they obey.
Those who have nothing to fear do not fear the police in this country. God Bless Chief Maher and the Escondido Police Department. To Hell with El Grupo.
