San Pasqual Academy
attendees to Key Club Convention: L-r - William F., DeJoinea M., LaToya W., Jennifer R. and Jabreil J. |
Dear Readers:
Recently I had the opportunity to attend a Key Club Convention in Anaheim with over 3,000 young people from all over California, Nevada and Hawaii, with the theme, “Bee a Hero.” I can tell you it was a real eye-opener! A very pleasant eye-opener!
We were fortunate to have had 28 teenagers from Escondido schools; this was their first attendance at a Key Club convention. Had you seen them that weekend, all dressed up, mingling with all the other kids, and realizing they all have the same goals, that of service to their schools and community, you would have been so proud! I think they all came home worn out because of the late night events and early morning meetings which lasted all day; I know all the advisors did.
Other advisors who attended, the number of students attending and the schools represented are: Jackie Taylor, Faculty Advisor for San Pasqual Academy with five students (in the process of chartering); Lori Soule, Faculty Advisor from Escondido Charter High School, with nine students (a newly chartered Key Club); Dave Schmitt, Kiwanis Advisor, and five students from San Pasqual High School; Mike Donaldsen, Kiwanis Advisor, and Jodi Roberts, Faculty Advisor, with seven students from Escondido High and two students from Orange Glen, and two other Kiwanians from the Escondido Noon Club, Nat Heard and Natali Galt.
I went as the Kiwanis Advisor to both Charter H.S. and San Pasqual Academy. I can truly say, if these are the young people who will be leading our country in a few years, we'll be
in good hands! I was so proud of them all!

Assistance League Holds Tea and "Hats Off to Spring" Fashion Show
An English-style Tea with a fashion show by "Sensations!" of Poway was held recently at the Country Club of Rancho Bernardo. Of the 75 to 100 in attendance, there were numerous opportunity drawings for gift baskets with some wonderful prizes; one lucky person at my table won four of them but turned three of them back, then ended up winning the "money hat" also. Funds raised will benefit the many great projects that The Assistance League of Inland North County does for and contributes to the community.
