A Chocolate Freak
OMG! Best Story Ever!
Loved the Norwegian comment and all the historic background. And the modern techniques and the veggie dye on the "m" and ALL OF IT!
Perfect for Easter. I saw the store selling sugar-free Peeps -- progress, I guess. But it's not CHOCOLATE.
Great pix too. Thanks for not including German Chocolate Cake, a horrible blight on desserts.

Under subject heading, a feature article in today's Union Tribune states that, "A growing number of elected (whoever they are) officials are raising the idea of shifting more TransNet funds to pay for fuel, salaries and other costs of operating mass-transit systems, even if it could mean delaying long planned highway projects or trolley extensions". As an example, the badly needed completion of Highway 76 between I-15 and I-5 in Oceanside for lack of funds was delayed for years while priority was given to projects like the half billion dollar Sprinter commuter light rail line between Escondido and Oceanside. The public votes for Trans-Net tax Propositions to fund the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), a bureaucracy controlled by a panel of twenty one scattered political Board members with no direct way to be held individually accountable.
The North County Transit District projects a budget deficit of $2.9 million in the year that begins July 1 yet is spending millions of dollars in administrative, operational and maintenance cost to provide large, practically empty Breeze busses cruising North County city streets. Where and when are the expenses and cost per passenger mile disclosed? The huge, oversized Breeze busses and now the Sprinter serve relatively few residents and are glaring examples of questionable priorities and stewardship of public funds. Public transportation may be an obligation but where is the accountability to the taxpayers??

Thank you for a wonderful article on ECCDC & the Barnum family in this week's issue of The Paper! (4/02/09) It was sweet and complimentary. Super pictures!
I will send Bob & Suzi Barnum enough copies to distribute to all their family members and a copy for the grandbabies' scrapbooks!
By the way, the front page story is charming! and the Chuckles always amuse me!
Thanks again!

I just wanted to say thanks again for the piece you did on me. (A review of ZEN and the Art of Surfing) I don't know that I've ever been more pleased at how you "got" my stories and put them together with our conversation into an article that came together so seamlessly.
Also, my novel, "Mammoth Mountain" has just been picked up by a top New York agent. I'd say her name but I don't want
to jinx it!
Blessings,
