Carlsbad Announces Their Strawberry Festival

Carlsbad Village will hold its Annual Strawberry Festival "Everything Strawberry" at the Farmers' Market on Wednesday, April 15 and Saturday, April 18, from 1 to 5pm. The markets are held weekly at 2930 Roosevelt Street in the Public Parking Lot between Carlsbad Village Drive and Grand Avenue.

The celebration will feature live strawberry cooking demonstrations by Captain Cooks Culinary Academy, the traditional Scavenger Hunt, live music, and wholesome family fun. Check out all the strawberry delights, smoothies, flan, jam, cheesecake, fudge, cake, and strawberry shortcake with whipped cream. Children's Hospital Auxiliary to Hold Fashion Show and Luncheon

The North County Unit of Rady Children's Hospital Auxiliary will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 15, at 9:30am in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church, 341 So. Kalmia, Escondido. The meeting will feature a fashion show by Cabi Fashions and a salad luncheon. Anyone interested in learning about the auxiliary is invited to attend. Ernie Cowan to Speak at Senior Anglers Meeting

The Senior Anglers of Escondido will hold their regular monthly meeting on Friday, April 17, at 9:30am, at the Joslyn Senior Center, 210 Park Avenue, Escondido. One of the highlights of the year is having Ernie Cowan, the Outdoor news writer for the North Country Times as the featured speaker, and he will talk about Eastern Sierra fishing through the eyes of Ernie Cowan.

This is a very active senior club with many activities. There is a camp-out planned, the annual fish fry will be held in May, and there are salt-water and surf fishing trips coming up. Guided Hike to Explore Lusardi Canyon

On Saturday, April 18, from 9:30am to 12 Noon, join the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy to explore Lusardi Canyon, which connects Black Mountain Open Space Park to the San Dieguito River Park and provides a critical habitat link between these two large open space areas. Church to Hold Annual Rummage Sale


The First United Methodist Church will be holding their 18th "Great Annual Rummage Sale" at the church, 341 So. Kalmia St., Escondido, on Friday, April 24th from 8am to 4pm and Saturday, April 25 from 8am to 12Noon. Bargains abound! Bring a friend! There will be a "high end" boutique, as well as clothes, furniture, small appliances, collectibles, tools, toys, crafts, jewelry, and household items for sale.

Contemporary Women of North County (CWONC), a local women’s volunteer organization and social club, recently honored Ann Lygas and Vivian Doering for ten years of active participation in the club.

At their March meeting guest speaker, Anita Marsh, talked about the Relay for Life to be held at Carlsbad High School in August, seeking participation in the 24-hour run/walk event which supports and honors cancer survivors and their families, and helps raise money for the American Cancer Society. Rancho Bernardo Art Association Announces Showings


If you like artwork, would like to find others with the same interest, like to show your art, you might be interested in checking out the Rancho Bernardo Art Association. RBAA is a group where artists share ideas, art, have demonstrations of different medium from professional artists, critique nights, and award shows. Children's Museum Announces April Events

The Escondido Children's Museum participates in Earth Day celebrations and made the month of April "Earth Month" for their programs. The Museum is located at 380 North Escondido Blvd., Studio 1, Escondido.

On April 11th will be Recycled Robots - a Make and Take Craft. Experience the grand opening celebration of iRecycle, an interactive exhibit that focuses on the importance of recycling environmentally hazardous electronic waste such as cell phones and batteries. Bring your used batteries and old cell phones to the Museum for delivery to the recycle facility. The recycling theme will continue. Bring bottles, cardboard cereal boxes, cardboard tubes, and other recycle-type items you would like to create a robot to take home, and a large "recycled" robot will be made to display in the Museum.

The program on Saturday, April 18, will be all about native birds. Where do some of them go in the winter? Why do some of them stay around our homes? How do they stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer? Learn clues to identify birds in the field and take a walk in the park with local birders and help make a list of all the birds we can count, and learn fun ways to attract native birds to our own backyards.

Then on Saturday, April 25, there will be a puppet show with Professor Green Genes and the Wasteful Witch, and the cool Mr. Wolf. They will teach you to recycle, conserve, and to help Professor Green Genes save our planet.

Audubon Society To Hold Easter Birdwalk, Native Garden Tour and Meeting


photoCelebrate Easter with the Buena Vista Audubon Society as they lead a birdwalk at Penasquitos and Lopez Canyon on Easter Sunday, April 12, at 8am. This is one of the best remaining coastal riparian, grassland, marsh, and woodland areas in the county. You will be looking and listening for rails, raptors, grasshopper sparrows, migrants, as well as many other birds. Expect to walk a mile or two on a good trail. Meet in the parking lot of Cantina Mountain Bike Gear, 4206 Sorrento Valley Blvd., #G, San Diego. The general meeting of the Audubon Society will be on Wednesday, April 15, with refreshments at 7pm and the program at 7:30pm. Barbara Moore, who has been teaching bird classes and leading bird walks in the San Diego area for many years, will be discussing neotropical bird migration. San Diego is at the heart of the Pacific Flyway and spring migration is a wonderful time to view birds in the area. The general meetings are always open to the public. photoThen on Sunday, April 19, at 2pm, the Society's Native Plant Club will have a native garden tour in Oceanside. Expert guides will lead participants on an easy walking tour of a number of close-by residential gardens, each featuring California native plants. Meet at St. Mary’s School, 515 Wisconsin Street, Oceanside. Take Coast Hwy. And go east on Wisconsin Street. For more information, visit www.bvaudubon.org.
State Propositions to be Discussed at Republican Club Meeting

On Monday, April 20, at 11:30 for social and program at 12Noon, The Escondido Republican Club will feature Frank Kacer, founder and executive director of the Christian Citizenship Council of San Diego, who will discuss the six state propositions on the May 19th Special Election ballot.

San Marcos College Republicans Hosting Fundraiser

The San Marcos College Republicans are hosting a fundraiser to help finance travel to the California College Republican Convention. The event will be on Friday, April 17. The doors open at 11am, the event starts at 11:30am, at the Twin Oaks Golf Course Garden Room. Lunch will be $25/person.

The annual convention brings college Republicans together from across the state to share the daily struggle in combating extreme liberalism on campus among students, faculty, and the administration. Invited elected State officials include Assemblyman Martin garrick and CRP Chairman Ron Nehring.
