RB Chorale to Present Spring Show

The RB Chorale, under direction of Pat Bean, announced that tickets will go on sale Tuesday, March 31, for its Spring show "Oh Say, Can WE Sing!" Performances will be held on Friday and Saturday, May 8 and 9, at 7:30pm at the Poway Performing Arts Center, 15498 Espola Road, Poway.

The 120+ voice community chorale presents its 35th anniversary program. Each show will feature hits from yesterday, a medley of love songs called "Idolmania!" - a nod to American Idol, and appearances by this year's finalists of the Chorale's annual scholarship program, selected in part by audience vote to receive $10,000 in total.

Early bird ticket prices for general admission, seniors, students, and military runs through April 14, saving you $2 off the regular price. Starting March 28, purchases can be made by phone at 858.485.SONG (7664), through Chorale members or at www.powayperformingarts.com. Regular prices are: Preferred Seating $30, General Admission $20; Seniors, Students, Military $18. Children 3-12 $10, and Infants 0-2 $5. Net proceeds benefit the RB Chorale Scholarship Fund for musically talented San Diego area high school graduating students.

Sr. Specialists Networking Group Meeting Today


Today, Thursday at 11:30am, the North County Senior Specialists Networking Group will hold its monthly meeting at Acadia Place Retirement Community, 1080 Arcadia Avenue, Vista. Cost is $20/person, and includes lunch and tour of property. Call 760.497.1150.

Paws in the Park Will Be Full of Tail-Wagging Fun and Games

The Paws in the Park dog walk on March 29 is sure to be a howling good time for dogs and people alike. Event highlights include a Canine Couture fashion show and a wet T-shirt contest (don’t worry, it’s for the dogs!). With the community’s support, the Humane Society can reach the goal of raising $100,000 for animals who need it the most.

Paws in the Park is from 8am to Noon, Sunday, March 29 at Kit Carson Park, 3333 Bear Valley Parkway, Escondido. For information, call 760.888.2235 or go to www.escondidohumanesociety.org.

Also, the Escondido Humane Society is holding an adoption outreach event from 11am to 2pm, on Saturday, March 28 at Petco in Escondido, 1000 W. Valley Parkway. Rose Society Announces April Meeting

On Saturday, April 4, at 9am, Dr. Joel Ross will repeat his March meeting rose-aholics lecture on "Integrated Pest Management." If you are noticing signs of pesky diseases like mildew and rust or attacks by chewing or other unsightly bugs, you may want to hear what Dr. Ross has to say. The location is Magee Garden, located in Magee Park at the corner of Beech Avenue and Garfield Street in Carlsbad. The garden is tended by the organization as a community service activity and a place to teach others various techniques for pruning, planting, and caring for their roses at home. Interested In Recycling Your Old Cell Phone?

To help keep old cell phones out of landfills, the San Marcos Historical Society is participating in a recycling program in which a company repairs the phones for reuse in third world countries. The museum is paid for each instrument. Cell phones can be dropped off at the Museum, 270 W. San Marcos Blvd., San Marcos. Hours are Wednesday thru Sunday from12Noon to 4pm. New DAR Daughters Receive Official Designation

Rancho Buena Vista Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, recently welcomed nine new members to the chapter.

These ladies received their official designation as members of the National Society. As a member of DAR, through participation in the society’s various programs and activities, members can continue their heritage by actively supporting historic preservation, promoting education and advancing patriotic endeavors.

The next meeting of DAR will be at 9:00am, April 4 at the Rancho Buena Vista Adobe, 640 Alta Vista Drive, Vista. After the business meeting, members and guests will enjoy a docent-led tour of the Adobe and grounds. A salad luncheon will follow. DAR is open to any female age 18 or older who can prove lineal bloodline from someone who served in the Continental Army or gave aid to the cause of freedom in the American Revolution. CWONC To Present Annual Mother's Day Tea

GFWC Contemporary Women of North County (CWONC), will present the 9th Annual Mother’s Day Tea on Saturday, May 9, from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Mothers, daughters and friends are invited to share an afternoon of fine teas, delicious treats, delightful company, entertainment, and special opportunity items. The guest speaker will be Caren Vink, Vice President of Soldiers’ Angels, which supports all branches of the Armed Forces.

The tea will be held in the garden of the historic Wood House at Woodland Park in San Marcos. Tickets are $25/person, $42 for two, and $20 each for parties of six or more. Local businesses are invited to help with this non-profit fundraiser by contributing items or services for a silent auction or food for the luncheon. CWONC is a non-profit, local women’s volunteer organization, and proceeds from this Tea will benefit Soldiers’ Angels, local scholarships and Casa de Amparo. Escondido Democrats to Discuss Health Care

The April meeting of the Escondido Democratic Club will deal with health care reform. Featured speaker is Sylvia Hampton, health director of the League of Women Voters of San Diego County, who will discuss "The obstacles to universal health coverage: money and politics."

The meeting is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 9 at the Joslyn Senior Center, 210 Park Avenue in Escondido. Admission is free and open to everyone. Light refreshments will be served. LSM Democratic Club to Feature Dr. Robert Reider as Speaker

The Saturday, April 11 meeting of the Lake San Marcos Democratic Club will feature Dr. Robert Reider who will discuss the analysis of the current financial crisis. Dr. Reider is Chairman of the Economics Department at Cal State University, San Marcos. The club meets at the Lakeside Pavilion on La Bonita Drive at Lake San Marcos. Megabucks Fundraiser Planned by Kiwanis Club

An exciting night of cash prizes, live and silent auctions, dinner, drinks, and dancing is what can be expected from the Megabucks Bonanza put on by the Kiwanis Club of Escondido. The theme is "The Roaring '20's - Puttin' On the Ritz" and will held on Saturday, May 9, from 6-10pm, at Orfila Vineyards and Winery, 13455 San Pasqual Road, Escondido. There will be a cash prize of $100 each for the Top Two Best Costumes. Ladies, get out those flapper dresses, and men dig out those suspenders and spatz!

Tickets are $100/per, with first prize being $5,000; second prize, $2,500; and third prize of $1,000, plus up to 10 prizes of $500 each, provided 400 tickets are sold (and adjusted pro rata depending on total ticket sales). You need not be present to win any of the cash prizes. Each ticket holder initially has a 1 in 30 chance of winning a cash prize in the drawing. Also, each person will receive three drink tickets for the open bar.

Classic Chevy Club Show Coming Soon

The Classic Chevy Club will present the Heartbeat Happening XI Car Show on Sunday, April 26, from 9am to 3pm, at Bates Nut Farm, 15954 Woods Valley Road, Valley Center.
