Escondido Children's Museum March Schedule
Science Saturday - March 14. Help celebrate a month of science as part of the San Diego Science Festival. Learn the difference between a physical reaction and a chemical reaction, make a potato clock, and be amazed by a Van de Graaff generator demonstration. We'll also throw some ingredients together to make some "glop" for you to take home.
Bird House Design Contest and Pine Cone Bird Feeder - March 21. Children and adults of all ages are invited to enter a competition to design a bird house to attract native birds to your backyard. A short construction workshop, with wood scraps available, will be given, along with hints and clues to build a bird house of your own. We will be collecting the houses for three weeks and displaying them in our Kiwanis Children's Garden here at the Museum. On April 11 the results of the contest will be given and you will be able to take your houses home. Pine cone bird feeders will also be made to hang in your gardens.

Democratic Club to Learn About the
Carlsbad Power Plant
The March 14 meeting of the Lake San Marcos Democratic Club will feature a speaker from "Power of Vision, Carlsbad," to talk about the Carlsbad Power Plant by NRG of New Jersey, and give an update on the status of the project and its impact affecting the water resources and air quality of the San Marcos area. News from the Escondido Democratic Club
The March meeting of the Escondido Democratic Club will deal with labor issues. The date is Saturday, March 14, at 10:30am, at the Escondido Main Library, 239 So. Kalmia Street. The speaker will be Anthony Saavedra, from the San Diego and Imperial County Labor Council, and the topic will be "Rebuilding the Middle Class through the Employee Free Choice Act."

Seussical Comes to the Center for the Arts
Center Stage Productions is proud to announce Seussical at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido, from Friday, March 13, to Sunday, March 15. The musical extravanganza showcases the community's talented youth in this Dr. Seuss-themed musical.
Four performances are available: March 13 and 14 at 7:30pm; March 14 and 15 at 2pm. Tickets are available at the Center for the Arts and online at

Call for Volunteers for Oceanside Days
of Art Event
Over 120 volunteers are needed for the 17th Annual Oceanside Days of Art for Saturday and Sunday, April 18 and 19. There will be over 100 artists and 300 entertainers for the event. Volunteers interested in helping with the new collaborative "Circle Painting" venue will be trained by Artist Heip Nguyen at a four-hour session prior to the weekend. As many as 30 volunteers will be needed to paint with and assist participants at 12 tables at this venue. Knowledge of art is not necessary, but art students could benefit.

Concert Scheduled for Scripps Ranch
The Pegasus Trio.us is performing at the Scripps Ranch Library on Sunday, March 15, at 2:30pm. This newly formed trio, pianist Miho Gary, Elena Yarritu on flute and clarinetist Matt Gill, will give a small lecture for each piece of music. Annual Literary Faire Sponsored by AAUW
The Escondido-San Marcos Branch of American Association of University Women (AAUW) will hold their annual Literary Faire and Luncheon on Saturday, March 21, from 11am to 3pm, at the Escondido Country Club. Two Authors will be presented with their books:
Francis French -- "Into That Silent Sea" which is a chronicle of human stories about the first astronauts--Yuri Gagarin, Alan Shepard, Gus Grissom, Scott Carpenter, and others.
Debra Ginsberg -- "The Grift," an entertaining whodunit about a psychic who learns how to lie truthfully.

New Members Welcomed Into DAR
The Rincon del Diablo Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution recently welcomed into the chapter new members who had proven their lineage back to an American patriot of the Revolutionary War. Student Awards Presented by R.B.Vista Chapter of DAR
Rancho Buena Vista Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution recently honored seven Vista students at their 6th Annual Awards Ceremony. The winners were recognized for their outstanding efforts and accomplishments.
Good Citizenship medals & certificates were presented to four 8th graders: Allison Rutan & Amanda Wygant, Faith Lutheran School, and Matthew Stewart & Alexa Nakamura, Vista Academy of Visual and Performing Arts. (See photo below). This award is given to a boy or girl in middle school who shows qualities of honor, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism.
High school seniors, John Knox, Mission Hills; Kristie Borjesson, Rancho Buena Vista; and Fletcher Damon, Vista, received Good Citizen awards. (See photo below) This award recognizes dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism among high school seniors. These winners were judged on a handwritten essay dealing with the topic of the preservation and meaning of our American heritage. Fletcher Damon’s essay placed first among the three students and was entered into competition in the San Diego DAR district. His entry placed first among the 10 district winners and has been sent to DAR California state competition.
DAR is open to any female age 18 or older who can prove lineal bloodline from someone who served in the Continental Army or gave aid to the cause of freedom in the American Revolution. For additional information, contact 760.736.0178 or by email to rbvdar@gmail.com.
Escondido Education Foundation is Debuting Youth Festival
The Escondido Education Foundation (EEF) is debuting the annual Escondido Youth Media Festival on Wednesday, March 11, at 7pm, in the Concert Hall at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. This will showcase the creative genius of kindergarten through 8th grade students in Escondido public schools. The event is open to all students, parents, Escondido Union School District staff, and members of the community. Admission is free to the first 1,500 guests.
This exciting and enjoyable event will be a multi-media, interactive festival showcasing one of EUSD's most successful and innovative technology programs, Project LIVE, "Learning through Instructional Video in Education." The EEF is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation founded in 2004 by business and community leaders to support quality education in the Escondido Union School District. The goal is to develop a lasting partnership of parents, educators, business people and community volunteers.
Toyota of Escondido Will Host Escondido Chamber's March Mixer
