Mr. PennywhistleObservations and Reflections on Life in General in These Here Parts

Paul Malone, the San Marcos Wunderkid, who became City Manager after Rick Gittings retired, showed some marvelously classy perception of reality this week when he was rewarded with a 2.5% increase in pay . . . but took it upon himself to ask that the raise be deferred until December of this year. San Marcos, like many cities, has taken some heavy cuts in personnel, services, and Malone showed he’s willing to share the burden along with his department heads and staff. Well done.

Next week is the Operation Hero program at the Hidden Valley Kiwanis Club. This great group of guys and gals invite in a wounded warrior once each quarter, recognizes and honors him or her, and at the end of the program presents them with a check for $500 from their club. It’s a very moving, inspirational program and is open to the public. It’ll be next Tuesday, 7am, Cocina del Charro Resaturant, 525 N. Quince. Breakfast is $8. Please RSVP to 760.747.7119 and let them know you’re coming so they have plenty of tables, chairs and food. It will be one of your more memorable moments in life.

The Hidden Valley Kiwanis Club will be happy to help other civic/service clubs sponsor an Operation Hero Program. Just call 747.7119.
