Friars Folly - San Marcos
A Restaurant Review
by Paul VanMiddlesworth
For the past five years our favorite hangout has been the Friars Folly in San Marcos' Restaurant Row. "The Folly" is about halfway between our work and home. It is unique. The early evening ambience is relaxing and informal. It's where we love to kick back, relax and unwind. The Folly has an outstanding wine list, a half dozen excellent hand crafted beers and a most interesting and constantly changing menu of tapas, entrees and desserts.
Women usually outnumber men at least three to one at "The Folly." The reason for this is that when women socialize together they like a place where they can sip wine, talk and enjoy one another's company.
Couples also enjoy the intimacy of “The Folly." When we men socialize we prefer a place where we can drink beer, fart, belch, scratch ourselves, swear out loud, and drown out meaningful conversation with a couple dozen well placed TV sets. No TV at The Folly so men don't cluster there.
The live entertainment featured Wednesday through Saturday usually starts around 7:30. The entertainment at "The Folly" is absolutely world class. Many solo musicians and bands work "The Folly" between tours. Nearly every night features a different set of artists. There were ten different performing groups in January alone. With no cover charge, incredible entertainment and great food and drink it is really a one of a kind experience.
We love our "Folly" and bet you will too. Check it out at www.friarsfolly.com
