"Reviewing" The State's Fiscal Situation
By Senator Mark Wyland
For the purpose of "reviewing" the state's fiscal situation with the Treasurer, the Controller, the Legislative Analyst, and the Department of Finance, lawmakers were called to Sacramento earlier this week for a joint informative session on the serious challenges facing the California budget.
More "reviewing" isn't what the state needs; what we need is to take action. Anyone who's picked up a newspaper in the last year knows that, thanks to overspending, we've been facing a fiscal crisis for years. While I deeply respect the work of these experts, I understand how dire California's situation is without sitting through yet another meeting that doesn't take a single action to repair our broken budget system.
Until we are ready to start working on something genuine and substantive, these sessions are unfortunately just meaningless press drills that do nothing to help California.
Senator Mark Wyland represents the people of the 38th Senate District, which includes cities in north San Diego County and the south Orange County cities of San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano.
