Santa's Workshop at Interfaith Community Services in Need of Toys
North County nonprofit, Interfaith Community Services, currently has 179 children and parents on its waiting list for the organization's Holiday Adopt-a-Family Program. "Christmas is a luxury," said Nusrat Symons, the coordinator of the Holiday Adoption program. "These families cannot afford to splurge on Christmas presents. Many are struggling as a result of the economy. It's our hope that we'll be able to ensure there's a gift under the tree for everyone this year."
Santa's Workshop is made possible in its entirety by the community's donations and generosity. Each year, Interfaith organizes the Holiday Adopt-A-Family program asking community members, organizations, and businesses to open their hearts and provide holiday gifts to one of many families who would otherwise go without a Christmas celebration. Nearly half of the families needing help for the holidays have been adopted, but more than 50 families are on a waiting list, which accounts for more than 100 children.
To adopt a family in need or make a toy donation, contact Interfaith at 760.489.6380. Gifts must be new and unwrapped. Wish-lists for each family are provided to help in selecting an appropriate gift. Gifts can be delivered through the week of December 14 to Interfaith's Santa's Workshop located in downtown Escondido. Call for directions and hours of operation. All the
families who are receiving gifts have been prescreened by the organization and are currently enrolled in at least one of Interfaith's eleven comprehensive programs that are designed to help families regain self-sufficiency, said Symons.
