North County Food Bank and Albertsons Team Up For Food Drive
You have a few more days to participate in the Bountiful Harvest Food Drive by the North County Food Bank and Albertson's grocery stores as they team up for the drive from September 15-28. Senior Center Invites You to Join Fitness Building Fund Committee
As the aging process continues, seniors are recognizing that exercise is key to promoting health of mind and body. At the San Marcos Senior Center, and as part of the Fitness Building Fund Committee, it is recognized that we all need more to aid in preparing for the future. That's why the Center and Committee have partnered, collaborating on a more useful, spacious and accommodating environment to promote heath.
You can increase your health and self care skills by committing to participate in the many exercise programs available to better your quality of life. You can find a new friend, an activity, and/or support the upcoming special events by attending and contributing. You may meet the challenge of mind and body by assisting the Center to fund a new all-purpose area to be built with the help of the San Marcos community. EMPAC Meeting Is Tonight
The Escondido Mobile-Manufactured Homeowner Positive Action Committee (EMPAC) will meet at 7pm tonight, Thursday, September 25, in the Compact Room at the East Valley Community Center, 2245 E. Valley Parkway, Escondido.
The guest speakers will be Dr. Marcelo Rivera, seeking reelection to the Palomar/Pomerado Hospital Board and a representative for Nick Liebham who is running for Congress. Term Limit petitions will be available for signing.
Daughters of British Empire Meet Monthly

Like to Dance?
Seniors are invited to enjoy social dancing on Tuesdays from 1-3pm in the large, recently remodeled auditorium at the Escondido Joslyn Senior Center, 210 Park Avenue, Escondido. The band plays a variety of music including Cha-Cha, Waltz, Fox Trot, etc. Admission is $3, and includes refreshments at the break. Parking is available in the front and rear of the building. Constitution Week Celebrated by Local DAR Chapter
At the request of the Rincon del Diablo Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, Escondido Mayor Lori Holt-Pfeiler proclaimed September 17 through 23 Constitution Week to commemorate the two hundred twenty-first anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention. She urged all citizens to study the Constitution and reflect on the privilege of being an American with all the rights and responsibilities of that privilege.
Daughters of the American Revolution is a nonprofit, non-political, volunteer women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America's future through better education. Hawaiian Luau and Family Fest Scheduled
Aloha! Tickets are now on sale for the 8th Annual Hawaiian Luau to benefit St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic School. The event is set for Saturday, October 4, from 3pm to 8pm on the school grounds, 515 Wisconsin Avenue, Oceanside (one block east of Coast Highway).
There will be entertainment throughout the evening provided by Semisi and Fula Bula Band from 4pm to 6pm, and "Varua Tahiti e" Dancers at 7pm. Gift items will be raffled off throughout the evening.
Dinner will be served from 4:30pm to 6pm. Attendees can feast on authentic Hawaiian food. Tickets are $15/adults, and $5/children under 10. Monies raised by this event will support various programs and a scholarship fund for St. Mary's students in pre-K through 8th grade. Prospective Membership Workshop for North County DAR
Do you have a Revolutionary Patriot in your family tree? Membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) honors and preserves the legacy of your Patriot ancestor. The Rancho Buena Vista Chapter DAR will be hosting a workshop for women over 18 years of age on Thursday, October 9 from 9:30am to 11:30am, at the Vista Library, 700 Eucalyptus Avenue. Two important subjects that will be covered are using genealogy resources and finding required documentation to complete and substantiate information for the application.

Basic Birding Class Announced
Fall migration has begun. Expect to see some new visitors at the Buena Vista Lagoon Landing on Jefferson St. in Carlsbad. The Audubon leader,
Tom Troy, will help you identify birds by sight and sound, with instruction on the use of binoculars and spotting scopes. The date is this coming Saturday, September 27, at 8:30am. Coastal Communities Concert Band to Present Tribute
The Fall Concert of the Coastal Communities Concert Band will be "A Tribute to Don Caneva," the band's long time conductor. The event will be Sunday, October 5, at 2:30pm, at the Carlsbad Community Church, corner of Jefferson & Pine, Carlsbad.
The internationally-acclaimed band is proud to announce its fall concert, under the direction of the new conductor, Dr. Robert Fleming. The program will include many band and audience favorites from the past 21 years of Don’ s leadership.

Annual Gourd and Pumpkin Festival Planned
The Fallbrook Area Gourd Patch members are gearing up for the annual Gourd and Pumpkin Festival at the Welburn Gourd Farm, on Saturday, October 4, from 9am to 4pm.
