No Tax Increase Budget
By Senator Mark Wyland
more income tax, sales tax and fees are the only ways to close the deficit. However, Senate Republicans have recently proven the critics wrong by presenting a "No Tax Increase Budget".
The "No Tax Increase Budget" shows that there are many ways to get out of this $15.2 billion deficit without raising taxes. Although our plan was defeated by Democrats, I hope it can be used as a starting point for developing a budget that increases accountability for taxpayer dollars and improves our struggling economy.
If we can finally implement serious budget reforms, like completing real performance evaluation audits, working on the budget for an entire year in a two-year session and eliminating government waste, lawmakers have the opportunity to shape California's economy and do away with overspending. I hope our liberal colleagues realize this soon enough so we can pass a responsible budget.
