Optimists Club to Hold Annual Spaghetti Dinner
The Oceanside Optimists are having their annual Spaghetti Dinner on Sunday, August 17, from 4:pm to 7:pm, at the Oceanside Elks Lodge, 444 Country Club Lane, Oceanside.
Tickets cost $10/person, and the menu is "homemade" spaghetti and meat balls, salad, Italian bread, dessert, and coffee or ice tea. Beer, wine, and

Preview Night to Benefit Moonlight Cultural Foundation
On Tuesday, August 19, there will be a special preview of the Broadway musical, Les Miserables, with curtain time at 7:30pm, at the Moonlight Amphitheatre in Vista. Escondido Democrats Begin Discussion of State Ballot Issues
Many voters turn to their ballot without having a chance to research the many propositions on which they are asked to vote. To assist its members and friends, the Escondido Democratic Club will feature discussions of the propositions appearing on the November ballot at its August and September meetings. At the August meeting, scheduled from 7 to 9pm, Thursday, August 14, the topics will be redistricting, waiting period/parental notification,
and renewable energy.
The meeting will be held at the North County Unity Democratic Campaign Office, 135 E. Grand Avenue, Escondido. Admission is free and open to all. Free parking is available along Grand Avenue or in the city parking lot at Second Avenue and Kalmia Street. "Hello Dolly" Theme for Christian Women's Meeting
At the San Marcos-Vista Christian Women's Connection luncheon on Monday, August 18, the theme will be "Hello Dolly." The special feature will be “Darling Dolls," a unique and delightful display of adorable "Terry Lee Dolls” presented by Sandy Dorsey of Fallbrook. Learn all about dolls and doll collecting. If you have a doll or dolls and would like to share, please bring them.
The speaker and musician, Arlene Hart from Corona, is a former elementary teacher and talented musician. She will share her story of unbelievable
forgiveness in unthinkable circumstances. She definitely can be called "Oh, you beautiful doll" as she plays the piano and sings, a message in song and music.

Beta Sigma Phi's to Celebrate Beginning Day
The Hidden Valley Vista Council of Beta Sigma Phi International will celebrate Beginning Day on Saturday, August 23, from 10am to 1pm, at Shadowridge Country Club, 1980 Gateway Drive, Vista (phone 727.7700). The theme is "HVVC Wild Irish Roses Rekindle the Torch of Friendship."

Escondido Children's Museum Announces Calendar of Events
The Children's Museum is located at 380 North Escondido Blvd., Studio 1, Escondido. Hours of Operation: Summer Hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 10am - 4pm. Admission is $5/person. August 9 - Simple Science: It's time for some hands-on science experiments. Stir up some Gushy Glop to take home and drive your parents and friends wacky.
September 13 - Fiesta Time: We will dress in Mexican costume and make tortillas by hand. Get ready to make a pinata and then play a game to break it.
October 11 - Going Batty: Come and learn about the surprising, beneficial world of bats. Make some play bats and enjoy bat cookies with Dracula punch.
November 8 - Feathered Friends: Fly on over to make a bird feeder and a bird seed collage. Have some bird-themed snacks to peck at, too.
December 13 - Holiday Time at the Museum: Make Christmas tree ornaments for the museum and home. Snacking on cookies and hot chocolate, learn about diverse holiday traditions.
On Friday afternoons visitors adorn foot-long cardboard cars with paint, bottle caps, buttons, and other out-of-the-ordinary items and then put them on a paper road. The road points to downtown Grand Avenue where the real classic cars are displayed each Friday evening.
And for the adults, October 4th is the 5th Annual Moonlight Masquerate, "Setting Sail" Party. Support museum operations while you dress-up, bid, dine, and dance. Tickets and sponsorships are available.
