Imposing Impossible, Impractical Standards on California's 8th Graders
By Senator Mark Wyland (R-Carlsbad)
In February, the Coastal Commission voted against completion of State Route (SR) 241, the Foothill-South Toll Road. I disagree with this decision for a variety of reasons but most notably because a complete Route 241 would strengthen safety standards. As we clean-up from last year's devastating fires and prepare ourselves for the future, we know that adequate infrastructure is essential to public safety.
As it stands, the Transportation Corridor Agency filed an appeal to the Secretary of Commerce, requesting that the Coastal Commission vote be overturned. The Secretary of Commerce will hold a public hearing on the issue in the near future.
Unless your voice is heard now, unelected and unaccountable environmental extremists will have their way, ensuring that our local freeways continue to stay overly congested and unsafe. I urge you to get involved today while there is still something we can do to make a difference.
