Imposing Impossible, Impractical Standards on California's 8th Graders
By Senator Mark Wyland (R-Carlsbad)
Last week, I proudly stood with Governor Schwarzenegger at a signing ceremony as he put his signature on my bill, the Veteran's Bond Act of 2008. This worthy legislation will be placed on the statewide ballot this November.
The Cal-Vet Home Loan program helps our military veterans achieve the American Dream of homeownership by making low-interest financing available to qualified veterans. My legislation authorizes $900 million in bonds to fund the program. This does not impact the State's General Fund, since both principle and debt service are paid by the veterans' monthly mortgage payments.
We gathered with many veterans and members of the National Guard as the Governor and I spoke about the importance of supporting the Californians who have fought to protect our freedoms. Few bills are recognized with an official signing ceremony, so I was honored that the Governor rightfully felt this legislation deserved to be highlighted.
Senator Mark Wyland represents the people of the 38th Senate District, which includes cities in north San Diego County and the south Orange County cities of San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano.
