Proposition 13: Protecting California's taxpayers for the last
30 years
By Senator Mark Wyland (R-Carlsbad)
As California continues to bear the biggest brunt of immigration in our country, assimilation amongst our immigrants must be encouraged in order to make us the strongest nation possible. However, Americans don't support the absorption of our immigrants into the "melting pot" as much as we used to. Americans become increasingly frustrated as some immigrants choose to maintain their foreign identities as the "melting pot" becomes more of a "mixed salad".
This is why I've introduced a resolution that encourages the federal government to stop offering multi-lingual ballots. Printing English-only ballots shows respect to our immigrant citizens who have worked hard to learn English and assimilate to American culture, while still adding to our diversity.
Today Americans are challenged to find a common identity. I'm confident this small step would greatly move us forward. I hope the federal government recognizes the dilemma at hand and takes action.
