RB Republican Women Holds Fashion Show
At the Rancho Bernardo Republican Women, Federated, meeting recently, they had their annual fundraiser, a fashion show put on by Talbots of San Diego. In addition, President Lynn Ann Reagan introduced several political candidates and they spoke briefly about their candidacy. These included San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders, Robert Faigin for Superior Court Judge, and John VanDoorn, candidate for County Supervisor, District 3.
The meeting was held at Stoneridge Country Club, and after a delicious lunch, the fashion show began. Models were club members, Ann Gale, Charlotte Leamy, Nancy Opstad, Vivi-enne Riordan, and Momina Skill. Each one modeled three outfits, ranging from sporty types for golfing or sporting events, to shopping, to special events, while Ana from Talbots described them.

LSM Kiwanis Club Holds Special Guest Day
At a recent meeting of the Lake San Marcos Kiwanis, members and guests enjoyed a delightful lunch at the Special Guest Day. President Cathleen Stevens asked each member to introduce their guests; there was a short 'song-fest', then "fine/fun" time, led by Dick Skay. Program chair, Kitty Tilton, introduced the guest speaker for the day, Dave Schmitt. Dave is a former Lt. Governor for Kiwanis, Division 37, which includes clubs from all of North San Diego County. Dave's program was on the benefits of being a Kiwanian; where Kiwanis started and where it is today: "Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time."
The Lake San Marcos Club members, in addition to attending meetings for fellowship and inspiration, perform voluntary community service assisting the elderly, the needy, and the youth with their many different projects, and the scholarships they give each year to graduating seniors. Kiwanis worldwide includes over 300,000 members in more than 8,600 clubs in over 94 countries, and that's not counting the sponsored youth groups.
Meetings are held weekly, on Tuesdays at 11:30am, at the Recreation Hall, 1025 La Bonita Drive, Lake San Marcos, and guests are always welcome.

Bird Conservation Program at Camp Pendleton is Topic of Meeting
The rugged terrain of Camp Pendleton covers 195 square miles and is a magnet for wildlife. Largely undeveloped, the base has vast areas of pristine habitat that is actively managed to protect and preserve its natural resources. Eric Kershner, head of the wildlife management branch at Camp Pendleton, will discuss Pendleton’s Bird Conservation Program for the nearly 300 species of birds that live on the base. The meeting is tonight, Thursday, May 29, with social at 7pm and the program at 7:30pm, at the Buena Vista Audubon Nature Center, 2202 So. Coast Hwy., Oceanside.
On the following Saturday, May 31, Dr. Kershner will lead a field trip to Camp Pendleton, seeking such elusive species as Bell’s vireo and cactus wrens. This is a birding opportunity in an area which remains much the same as it was fifty years ago, and is not normally open to the public. For information, call 760.439.2473.
