Legislation to Improve CTE Programs in Schools
By Senator Mark Wyland (R-Carlsbad)
Earlier this month, I presented legislation that would allow donations of equipment, construction materials and labor to be used as contributions for the Career Technical Education (CTE) Facilities Program.
While some industries can't make monetary contributions to CTE programs, they may be able to donate labor, construction materials or equipment. Unfortunately, only cash contributions are allowed under current law, leaving many industries unable to make any donation to these worthy projects.
It is shameful that we do not allow these meaningful and substantive contributions at a time when CTE programs desperately need to be rebuilt. My bill would correct this mishap, helping broaden and improve vital CTE programs in California public schools.
As workers continue to retire at alarming rates, California must do everything possible to develop a new line of skilled workers for the next generation. I hope the Legislature will support my efforts to do just that.
