Pat and Oscars
A Restaurant Review
by lyle e davis
Okay, I’ll admit it. I’m hooked on Pat and Oscars. Anytime I’m anywhere near San Marcos I find some reason to dash in and grab one of their absolutely delicious salads.
From the day they opened their doors earlier in 2007, word spread quickly about this delightful eatery. Nice, neat, efficient, spotlessly clean . . . and great food! Well trained staff, courteous to a fault. And, then, of course, there’s the breadsticks.
If and when you’re waiting in line, don’t be surprised if one of the servers comes up and offers you a hot, fresh from the oven, breadstick . . with warm butter already applied. It’s a tradition at Pat & Oscars.
We normally order the San Diego. A combination of a half-sandwich, bowl of soup and a couple of breadsticks; we then order a medium size Greek Salad and split it. A good, healthy, tasty, and more than reasonably priced meal.
The manager, Ed Joyner, is that smiling gent who greets the customers, often by name, but is also busily delivering food to patrons as well. They don’t want you to wait very long at Pat & Oscar’s. Another one of those traditions I was telling you about.
The salad dressing with special herbs and spices blended in just the right way . . . designed to bring you back again and again and again.
You can dine in, or you can call ahead and order. They’ll cater your affairs . . . fix you up a dandy picnic lunch for the beach or park . . . or just bundle up lots of delicious food to enjoy at home.
Many’s the time I’ve been driving around in Escondido, running errands . . . when I succumbed to that siren call and drove over to San Marcos and headed straight for Pat & Oscar’s. You know what it’s like when you get that craving for a food you love? That’s the way it works with Pat & Oscar’s salads. That’s one of my weak spots (I have many).
If you haven’t already discovered them, give ‘em a try. Chances are you’ll see us there. We eat there so often I suspect we’ve paid their rent for a couple of months. Glad to do it. They’re that good.
Pat & Oacar’s, 137 S. Las Posas Road, San Marcos. Call 798-7889. Tell ‘em Lyle sent ya!
