Call to Artists for "Kites Over Vista" Themed Banners
The City of Vista is calling all artists to submit their vision of kites for the Celebrate Vista Banner exhibit to be showcased downtown. Ten artworks will be selected through a juried competition on April 15. Banners will be on display during June and July 2008. Artists are encouraged to be creative and depict kites of all shapes, styles and sizes. Interested artists are asked to submit colored sketches for review. Submissions can be made now and are due no later than 5pm on April 1. Woman's Club to Sponsor Casino Trip
The Woman's Club of Escondido is sponsoring a casino trip to Viejas on Tuesday, March 25. Tickets are $10/person, and may be obtained by calling June at 760.290.3963. The bus will leave promptly at 9am from the Clubhouse at 751 North Rose Ave., Escondido (corner Mission Ave., behind the church). Funds from the event will be used to support various charitable projects.
Literary Fair & Luncheon Sponsored by University Women
The American Association of University Women, Escondido-San Marcos Branch, are sponsoring their annual Literary Faire on Saturday, March 15, from 11am to 3pm, at the Escondido Country Club. The three authors and their books are: Judy Bernstein, "They Poured Fire on Us From the Sky;" Sheldon Lou, "Sparrows, Bedbugs, and Body Shadows;" and Susan Carol McCarthy, "True Fires."
In addition, there will be a silent auction, baskets, musical entertainment, and lunch, all for $30/person. Proceeds will fund education for women and girls. Democrats Host Escondido Candidates Night
Democrats and independent voters interested in Democratic candidates will have an opportunity to meet and question candidates at “Meet the Democratic Candidates Night” sponsored by the Escondido Democratic Club (EDC). The event is scheduled from 7 to 9pm, Thursday, March 13, in the auditorium at the Joslyn Senior Center, 210 Park Avenue, Escondido. Admission is free and there is free parking on site. Refreshments will be provided by Panera Bread of Escondido.
Confirmed participants include Nick Leibham and Cheryl Ede, candidates for 50th Congressional District; Brett Maxfield, candidate for 74th State Assembly District; Darren Kasai, candidate for 75th State Assembly District; and Olga Diaz, candidate for Escondido City Council. There will also be information tables for Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, Presidential candidates; as well as the San Diego County Democratic Party. New Members Sought for Women's Service Organization
GFWC Contemporary Women of North County (CWONC), a local women's service organization and social club's next meeting will be on Monday, March 10, at the historic Wood House, 1148 Rock Springs Road, San Marcos. Easter Egg Hunt to Feature More Than Easter Bunny
Bring the whole family to Brengle Terrace Park, 1200 Vale Terrace, in Vista, on March 22 to make this Easter ‘egg’straordinary! The City of Vista has festivities for the entire family beginning with the bonnet contest at 10am and an egg hunt at 10:45am. This event is open to all Vista residents, with a suggested donation of $2 per child.
The Easter event will include arts and crafts projects, family games and most importantly an ‘egg’citing Easter Egg Hunt! The contest age groups are under 3 years, 3 years, 4 years, 5 to 6 years, 7 to 8 years, and 9 to 10 years. The annual homemade bonnet contest will have a winner chosen in three categories: funniest, prettiest and most creative. The Easter Bunny will be available for pictures during the event. VFW Auxiliaries Serve Breakfast Every Sunday
The Ladies/Men's Auxiliaries of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3795, invite you for breakfast every Sunday from 9am to 12Noon, at 212 Mission Rd., San Marcos. Monies raised will help the V.F.W. Native Plant Club Meeting Set for March 16
What is a weed? Learn the difference between native plants and weeds. This will be a hands-on meeting so bring gloves and weeding tools for the Native Plant Club meeting on Sunday, March 16, at 2pm, at the Buena Vista Audubon Nature Center, 2202 So.
