Democrats Advance Extreme Budget Cuts
by Senator Mark Wyland
Addressing California's $14.5 billion deficit, Democrats in the Legislature recently approved nearly $1 billion in cuts to the state budget. While I agree that making cuts will eventually pull California out of the red, I don't believe that hasty decisions will repair our budget deficit.
These spontaneous cuts will do nothing to solve the Legislature's continual overspending problem. These cuts are an example of classic quick-fixes that have failed California in the past.
We need to make budget cuts and cannot afford to raise your taxes, but the affects need to be considered before the Legislature takes action. What California needs is a thoughtful, strategic solution that tackles our deficit for good-and no more band-aids that will just get us through the week.
