Assistance League Saluted "Hats Off To Hollywood"
At their recent annual fundraiser luncheon, the Assistance League of Inland North County saluted the "Hats Off To Hollywood" theme featuring a Vintage Wrapsody Production presented by the Goodwill Industries Volunteer Services from Los Angeles (GIVS).
In the glorious early days of cinema, the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel was the epitome of the excitement, the glamour and the elegance known as Hollywood. The performance began in the Blossom Room of the hotel in 1929 for the first Academy Awards. The program featured authentic antique fashions that came alive as volunteer members of GIVS modeled completely accessorized costumes. The clothes featured were from Goodwill's museum-quality collection of more than 500 garments.
Mistress of Ceremonies Carol LeBeau, Channel 10 News Anchor and "Staying Healthy" reporter, entertained the audience of 230+ guests, and all enjoyed the fashion show and silent auction. Proceeds from this event will be used for the five philanthropic programs of the Assistance League - Operation School Bell; Hug-A-Bear; Ready...Set...Read!; Operation Duffel Bags; and Baby Real Deal. In the year 2006/2007, 204 Assistance League members gave 22,486 hours of service to inland North County communities, returned nearly $241,722 to help meet special needs of area residents, and through their programs, touched the lives of 4,850 children and adults.
The Assistance League also owns, manages and staffs the Bargain Box, a thrift and consignment shop at 2068 E. Valley Parkway, Escondido. In addition, Outreach and Assisteens Auxiliaries gave 1,061 hours of service to almost 745 children and adults in need. For more information about the Assistance League, or to become a member, call 760.746.7532.
