Dominic's
by lyle e davis
One of the many things I like about Dominic’s Restaurant in Escondido is that when you order a glass of wine . . . they give you . . . a real glass of wine! Not some thimblefull of wine like you get at so many other restaurants! They give you a 12 ounce wine goblet with 10 ounces of wine!
That’s just one of the many reasons Dominic’s has been so successful over the years. They give you more than what you pay for. That’s the first step any restaurant should plan on if they want to see their clientele come back again and again and again.
We’ve eaten at Dominic’s so often I reckon we’ve paid their rent for a couple of months.
It’s hard to stay away. Generous portions of delicious food and drink, great service, and, quite often, a personal visit from the owners, Jerri and/or her husband, Jim. The Richter’s take pleasure in cooking and presenting their food and drink in an atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve come home.
We love their Muffaletta’s and order them often. For the uninitiated, a Muffaletta is the famous sandwich that came out of New Orleans. They make it as well, if not better, than the real New Orleans version.
Most recently I ordered Chicken Piccata ($14.95) which is chicken sauted in capers and lemon butter sauce. We ordered a half-carafe of Chianti and began to enjoy the feast. Evelyn ordered one of her favorites, Lasagna ($8.75). We had the salad instead of soup, and enjoyed the delicious dipping sauce of extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar with our garlic bread.
Evelyn, as usual, had to order a box to take much of her lasagna home. (I love this because I then get lasagna for lunch the next day. Remember, they serve large portions at Dominic’s!)
Jerri & Jim have weathered the construction that surely kept customers away. But the construction is complete, they have their new sign up . . . the place is spotless and ready to serve you indivdually, or you as a group. If you haven’t already tried Dominic’s, do it! You’ll be glad you did.
Naturally, they accept all major credit cards. Open from 11am to 10pm every day, they are located in downtown Escondido, 391 North Escondido Boulevard, just a Muffaletta’s throw away from the Regal Theatre. Call them at 760.480.1704. Hint: Better book reservations NOW for Valentines Day!
