How About Valentine's Day?

Trying to think of someplace special to take your "sweetie?" You might want to consider the Palm Springs Follies. If you hurry and go before February 10, you will be in for a great time. Half a century before teenage girls went crazy for "N Sync or the Backstreet Boys, American airways were dominated by the close harmony and soaring melodies of golden-throated male vocal groups. The most successful were the Four Aces, who reprise their greatest hits during the winter season of the Fabulous Palm Springs Follies. In addition, the Follies will give a salute to legendary composer Cole Porter. Remember, these are only through February 9.

Tickets for this event or to check on who will be the next performers at the Follies, call the Box Office at 760.327.0225, or check online at www.psfollies.com.

Teresa Laughlin to Speak at University Women's Meeting

On Saturday, February 16, when the Escondido and San Marcos Branch of the American Association of University Women meet, Professor Teresa Laughlin will present the program "A Woman's Place." As a professor of Economics at Palomar College, and as a married woman with three children, Laughlin has confronted societal stereotypes about "a woman's place." She will share insights on the last generation of working women, explain trends on women in education and the workforce, such as the number of women who drop out of the workforce and how that affects their lifetime earnings.

The AAUW meets at the Escondido Country Club, 1800 Country Club Lane, starting at 10am. The buffet lunch is $16/person. Call Virginia, 760.741.5702, for reservations.

Native Plant Club Meeting to Learn "Plant Propagation"

Also learn to identify "good" and "bad" plants by their blooms and seeds. The Plant Club meets on the 3rd Sunday of each month (February 17, this month), at 2pm, at the Nature Center, 2202 So. Coast Hwy., Oceanside. For more information, email to BVNPC@sbcglobal.net, or call the Center at 760.439.2473.
