Education Initiatives
A Message from State Senator Mark Wyland
With the new legislative session, I have introduced three initiatives that will enhance the kind of workforce and the kind of citizens that are being shaped in our schools.
First, by increasing the emphasis on career technical education (or vocational education) more students would graduate and do so with skills that translates into jobs. I am also introducing a rigorous and practical emphasis on science and math education. We need to keep the pipeline of engineers, scientists, and researchers filled.
Lastly, I am seeking to strengthen civics education so that young people are proud of our country’s great heritage. Today, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance is often ignored in schools. I hope to correct this.
