Assistance League Plans Annual Luncheon Fundraiser

The Assistance League of Inland North County will hold its fundraiser luncheon, “Hats Off to Hollywood,” on Saturday, February 9, at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. The event will feature vintage fashions from the theater. The program will begin with a social hour and silent action at 11am. Lunch will be served at noon, followed by the fashion show. Tickets are $85/person. Proceeds benefit the chapter’s community service programs, including Operation School Bell, Ready…Set…Read!, Hug-A-Bear, Operation Duffel Bags, Baby Real Deal, and scholarships for high school graduates.

Tony Krvaric to Speak at The Escondido Republican Club Meeting

Tony Krvaric, Chairman of the San Diego Republican Party, will be the speaker. Born and raised in Sweden, he was inspired by President Ronald Reagan to come to America. Though only a youth, he vowed to one day become an American and pursue his American Dream. The first step was to start his own business, and in 1992 when the opportunity presented itself, he moved to San Diego. He works as a full-service financial consultant for individuals and families who share his values, helping them grow, preserve and distribute their wealth. He is married and has four children.

Volunteers Needed for Sack Lunch Making Party

On Saturday, January 19, from 11am - 1pm, at Dave & Tina's Home, 2815 Cebu Place, Carlsbad, 92009, The Encouragement Center will be making up 320 non-perishable sack lunches for the poor and hungry. Items needed are non-perishable groceries, canned goods, boxed food, juices, diapers, laundry stuff, and more. Also, Gift Certificates from Albertson's are great; they have given some great deals on food, and when gift certificates are given to the needy we know the gift is being used for the intended purpose.

Winter Wonderland Snows on Carlsbad Village Farmers' Market

The Carlsbad Village Farmers' Market will hold a Winter Wonderland on Saturday, January 19, from 9am to 1pm. The markets are held weekly in the Village at 2930 Roosevelt Street in the public parking lot between Carlsbad Village Drive and Grand Avenue. There will be a snow making machine, live music, hot apple cider, snowcones, and a scavenger hunt, in addition to all the fresh, seasonal produce, flowers, plants, foods, and crafts. Buena Vista Audubon Announces January Programs

1. The Society's January Meeting will be Thursday, January 24, at 7pm social and 7:30pm program about "Birding off the San Diego Coast." Noted San Diego County pelagic (ocean) bird expert Stan Walens will present a virtual birding trip on the ocean off the coast of San Diego, learning how to identify the different birds, what to wear, where to position on the boat, and challenges/rewards of ocean birding. You will have an opportunity to sign up for a boat trip leaving Oceanside Harbor the following Saturdan morning. The Aububon Center is located at 2202 So. Coast Hwy., Oceanside. 2. Volunteers Needed: Make a New Year's Resolution to volunteer at the Nature Center in Oceanside. A short training session and you're ready to fly. Be a host at the Center, or participate in education programs for kids, native plant propagation, bird watching events, and field trips. Call Mary Ellen at 760.918.6622, to get started.

3. Preschool Nature Storytime - All preschoolers, 3-5 years old, with an adult, are invited to the Nature Storytime, starting at 10am, on the 4th Monday (this month, January 28). The program includes an hour of songs, fingerplays, a story, and a craft. This month it’s all about Little Bear in the Winter. S.D. Long Term Recovery Team Meeting for 2007 Fire Victims

The general meeting of the San Diego Long Term Recovery Team will meet on Tuesday, January 22, at 10:30am at the United Way Building, 5699 Murphy Canyon Road, San Diego. This team was set up for the purpose of supporting efforts on behalf of the 2007 fire survivors and working together to get individuals and families back home as soon as possible. Achievements and goals will be discussed, and Agency and Partner reports will be announced.
