A Message from California’s Senator Mark Wyland
Two giant victories occurred in North County at the end of last year. They both dealt with one of the state’s worst bureaucracies: The California Coastal Commission.
Like many ideas that seem good at first, the Coastal Commission has become an obstacle to common sense development and land use. It regularly delays projects, increases costs, and defies logic.
Fortunately, the cities of Carlsbad and Oceanside came out on top when seeking approval for a desalination plant and oceanfront hotel development. But, true to form, the Coastal Commission made them crawl through glass to get approval.
In my view, government should serve the people, not be a constant pain in the backside. I will continue to work in Sacramento to ease the cost and difficulty of dealing with the government.
