Sudan - Darfur
by lyle e davis
I have no idea where this is going to lead me but I feel that my next mission in life is to get involved somehow, some way, in helping out with respect to putting a stop to the atrocities that have been committed in Sudan and that are currently being committed in Darfur.
I’ve just come from a powerful presentation at my Hidden Valley Kiwanis Club of Escondido where Benjamin Ajak spoke this morning. He is one of the three Lost Boys of Sudan who, with local author, Judy Bernstein, wrote the dramatic and spellbinding book, “They Poured Fire On Us from the Sky.”
At my somewhat advanced age I’ve begun to get impatient with myself. I find myself discussing writing about what I “used to do.” It’s time to get active again and try to make a change in this world. I can’t think of too many people who need help more than the innocents who have been and are being slaughtered today.
There is the Lost Boys Education Foundation, which will help those young men who have been airlifted to America get an education. There are shipments of pencils, papers, art supplies that can be sent to the children of Africa . . . there are other speeches to be given by Benjamin to schools, churches, governmental agencies. He is a spellbinding speaker with a message that tugs at your heartstrings and urges you to “get involved, get involved.”
If you read our cover story of July 26th, “Lost Boys of Sudan,” and feel moved to get involved . . . if you’d like to arrange for Benjamin to speak to your civic or service club, or your church, your school, give me a call and let’s work together.
As I said in the beginning, I don’t know where this is going to lead but we are going to do something and it’s going to make a change in the world. For the better.
We may form an assocation of our own, we may affiliate with an existing group . . . I just don’t know . . . but the adrenaline flowing through my veins right now is urging me to move quickly on this and do something. The need is urgent.
So, if you’d like to join me, your local Don Quixote, drop me an email and let’s join some people of like mind and energies and see if, together, we can make some changes on this planet of ours before we depart.
