Summertime is a time for music, and there are several events coming up this month to stir your soul and make you want to dance. They are:
Summer Jazz at the Moonlight Amphitheatre
The Coastal Communities Concert Band will be presenting "An American Salute" concert on Monday, August 20, at the 2007 Summer Jazz at the Moonlight event. It will be at the Moonlight Amphitheatre, Brengle Terrace Park, 1200 Vale Terrace, Vista. Show time is 7pm; gates open at 5:30pm. Ticket prices are $15, $20 and $25, with $2 discount on single ticket prices for seniors, military and students. Call VisTix box office at 760.724.2110, or buy online at www.vistixonline.com.
The 85-member symphonic band is a favorite of music lovers worldwide. Directed by Don Caneva, CCCB has received awards from the John Philip Sousa Foundation and Switzerland's Alpine Music Festival. Program selections include stirring American marches, Broadway favorites, and award-winning movie themes. (See photo on P. 9 & 13.)

"Polynesian Paradise" is Theme for Luncheon Meeting
On Monday, August 20, when the San Marcos-Vista Women's Connection holds their monthly meeting, "Polynesian Paradise" will be the theme. The meeting starts at 11:30am, at the Lake San Marcos Country Club, 1750 San Pablo Drive, San Marcos. The special feature will be entertainment by Malia's Makuahines Polynesian dancers from Oceanside, as they "Dance through the Islands" with special music from the islands.
The speaker will be Yvonne Karlin, a radio announcer and motivational speaker who will share an inspirational message on how to make everyday living into a "Love Song." Find out how to get a "free ticket to paradise." Winnie Pointer, pianist, will provide background music.
All guests are encouraged to dress Hawaiian style, if they desire. Cost of the luncheon is $15/person, all inclusive. The club has no membership or dues. Summergrass San Diego Bluegrass Music Festival in Vista
August 24, 25 and 26 will be the 5th Annual Bluegrass Music Festival at the 40-acre Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum, 2040 No. Santa Fe, Vista. There will be three days of great live music, music workshops by performing artists, jamming, food, wide variety of vendors. onsite camping, special workshops for kids, and raffle prizes of new instruments.
Performing artists over those three days include Bluegrass Etc, U.S. Navy Bluegrass Quintet "Country Current"; John Reischman & The Jaybirds; Fragment; Lost Coast; The Brombies; Uglum & Sons; BladeRunners; Virtual Strangers; Lighthouse; and Soledad Mountain.

High School Students to Meet Weekly for Fellowship
High School students (Proxis) will meet on Wednesday nights beginning August 15, from 6:30pm to 8pm at Mission Hills Church in the High School Room 202, located is 400 Mission Hills Court, San Marcos.

Beta Sigma Phi's to Celebrate Beginning Day
The Hidden Valley Vista Council of Beta Sigma Phi International will celebrate an All American Beginning Day luncheon, "Strike up the Band and Sing it Loud," on Saturday, August 18, beginning at 11am at Palomar Estates West Mobile Home Park clubhouse, 1930 West San Marcos Blvd., San Marcos.
All Beta Sigma Phi members - active, inactive, on leave, members-at-large, transferees, and guests - are invited. Cost is $13/person, and reservations are required by August 10, by calling 760.743.3876.
Dance Recital Scheduled
Dance FX located in San Marcos is having its annual recital on Saturday, August 4 at the Center for the Arts, Escondido. Showtimes are 1pm and 7pm. Ticket price is $16/person. Call 760.747.9012 for more information.
Announcements from the Buena Vista Audubon Society
The Whelan Lake Bird Walk - a premier birding location not open to the public - is scheduled for the first Saturday of every month at 8am. Expect to see many different species. Directions: I-5 to Hwy 76. East on Hwy 76 to Douglas Drive. Turn left on Douglas and continue to the traffic light at North River Rd. Turn left and meet at the end of the cul-de-sac by entrance gate. Volunteer opportunities with the Audubon Society include being a host at the Buena Vista Audubon Nature Center, take children on educational nature walks, participate in conservation programs, native plant propagation, bird watching events, and field trips.
Your fresh ideas and special skills would be welcome. There is minimum time involved, about three hours per month, and on-the-job training is provided by experienced volunteers.
