Evelyn Madison- The Social Butterfly
The GFWC Contemporary Women of North County, a local women's volunteer organization, has scholarship applications available, and will be awarding two $500 scholarships to graduating senior girls; one to a student from San Marcos High School and one to a student at Orange Glen High School. The students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or better, a need for financial assistance, and be planning to attend a local community college such as Palomar or MiraCosta, in the Fall of 2007.
The deadline for returning the applications is April 18, 2007. Applications are available from counselors at each of those high schools and on the website at www.cwonc.org. CWONC will be awarding the scholarships to the winning students at the high schools award nights in May and also will honor them at their Annual Mothers Day Tea scheduled for Saturday, May 12, at the Wood House at Woodland Park in San Marcos. to Celebrate"75 Years Young"
The Hidden Valley Vista Council of Beta Sigma Phi International will celebrate the Founder's Day theme, "75 Years Young" and the local Founder's Day theme, "Beta Sigma Phi is Our Cup of Tea," on Saturday, April 28, beginning at 10:30am, at the Escondido Country Club, 1800 Country Club Lane, Escondido. Hidden Valley Vista Council Chapters, from all of North County, will honor chapter members, enjoy entertainment, and hold elections of new officers for the 2007-2008 Sorority year. San Marcos Community Services Commission Meets Monthly
The City of San Marcos' Community Services Commission will meet at 6:30pm on Wednesday, April 18, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 1 Civic Center Drive. Topics to be discussed will include Facility Scheduling, Community Leadership, Current Park Projects, Reports, and more. The Commission meets the third Wednesday of each month.
Chamber Music Society to Hold Concert
The Lake San Marcos Chamber Music Society has scheduled a String Quintet concert for Sunday, April 15, at 2:30pm. The concert will be at the Schulman Auditorium, Carlsbad Library, 1775 Dove Lane (one block north of Alga Rd/Aviara Parkway, west of El Camino Real), Carlsbad. The artists will be Julia Cser, Violin; Roger Wilkie, Violin; Brian Dembow, Viola; Paul Cohen, Cello; and Kim Scholes, Cello; with program selections from Luigi Boccherini and Franz Schubert.

"April in Paris" is Theme for Christian Women's Club Meeting
Monday, April 16, is the date and "April in Paris" is the theme of the San Marcos-Vista Christian Women's Club meeting, starting at 11:30am, at the Lake San Marcos Country Club, 1750 San Pablo Drive, Lake San Marcos. Cost of the luncheon is $15/person, all inclusive. The club has no membership or dues. The speaker will be Yrena Friedmann, a pharmacist from Carlsbad. Yrena will share how she was motivated to try to find peace, happiness, and a purpose out of life as she placed much emphasis on her job and with having power and possessions. She says she finally found the "Prescription for Peace."
Entertainment will be some "Simply Splashing Tones" by Donna Manners, a professional actress and singer from San Marcos, and Jewel Turbeville, pianist from San Marcos, will provide background music. In addition, the special feature will be Doris Soyland, professional landscape designer and specialist on flowers, from the Green Thumb Nursery in San Marcos. She will present a program on "All You Wanted to Know About Flowers."
Bluegrass Day is Coming to the Carlsbad Flower Fields
Join the North County Bluegrass & Folk Club at the Carlsbad Flower Fields on Saturday, April 14 for some "Pickin' in the Posies" and "Fiddlin' in the Flowers." During the day musicians will be around the grounds playing some bluegrass, old-time and other traditional music (solo or small groups). From 2-4pm visitors will be treated to a concert from The Brombies. The bluegrass musical entertainment is included in the regular price of admission to The Flower Fields. The Fields are open from 9am to 6pm. Admission is $9/adults, $8/seniors; $5/kids from 3-10years; 2 and under are free. Annual Charity Golf Tournament Taking Shape
The beautiful weather we have been having makes one want to spend some time outside. If you are feeling that same way, here's an opportunity for you to enjoy the outdoors and help to raise funds for the "Share A Dream Scholarship and Youth Programs" of the City of Escondido's Community Services Department. More than 2,250 Escondido children from low-income families have benefited from the scholarship program since it began.
The date of the tournament is Tuesday, May 8, at The Vineyard at Escondido. Check-in time is 11am; putting contest from 11am-12:30pm; free driving range available from 11am-1pm; and the shot gun start at 1pm. Entry Fee is $95/person if registered by April 19, and $110/person after April 19. Included are the Green Fees and Cart, a dinner following the tournament; awards for individuals and teams; and a tee package, silent auction and raffle prizes. Dinner guests tickets are available for $30/each.
