North County Bluegrass Schedules The Bladerunners for Concert
The Bladerunners burst onto the West Coast bluegrass scene in 1998 and continue to hone a tight and distinctive sound, focusing on sympathetic interplay and finding "the groove." Whether presenting lesser known bluegrass classics, original material, revamped R & B or country songs, or joking about the marital status of the band, a set by the Bladerunners is likely to delight the most jaded bluegrass fans.
Billy Reid has long been acknowledged as one of the finest 5-string banjo players in the West. Dave Brown took up the bass in the mid-eighties to tour with blues band Buddy Reed & The Rip It Ups. David Dickey III took up the bass to join his father's band, The Slover Mountain Boys, and within two years became their mandolinist with his unpredictable Monroe-based style. Finally, Sandy MacLean is the primary voice of the Bladerunners, handling most of the lead vocals.
This regular First Tuesday no-charge event takes place at Round Table Pizza, corner Washington and Ash in Escondido. The date will be March 6, and begins at 7pm with local bands or pick-up groups from the parking lot jam sessions. The featured band takes stage around 8pm. Come enjoy some pizza and be entertained!
