Re-opening of San Marcos Senior Center Dining Room to be Held Today

The San Marcos Senior Center at 111 Richmar Avenue will be holding a grand re-opening of the dining room today, Thursday, February 1. The dining room has been named The Discovery Cafe. Lunch will be served at 11:30am Monday through Friday. Reservations for lunch need to be called in the day before. On the menu for February 1 is baked chicken. Meals are a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and older and a fee of $5 for all others. The phone number is 744-5535.

Escondido Woman's Club to Celebrate Valentine's Day

On Sunday, February 11, from 2-4pm, the Woman's Club of Escondido will salute couples who have been married for 50 years or more at their "Love Matches" program. University Women to Offer Scholarship to Re-entry Woman

The Escondido-San Marcos Branch of the American Association of University Women is offering a $1,200 scholarship award for a woman attending college as a re-entry student. A re-entry student can be someone who started college, dropped out for a period of time, then re-entered at a later date, or a student who was unable to attend college immediately following high school but is now attending college.

Applicants must plan to earn a minimum of a four-year degree and will have earned 60 or more credit hours (equivalent of two years of college) by June of 2007. You're Invited to the Fat Tuesday Fundraiser at St. Mary's School

On Saturday, February 17, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, the Parent Teacher Group of St. Mary's School will present their 3rd Annual Fat Tuesday Fundraiser, under the big tent at the School, 130 E. 13th Avenue, Escondido. This is a New Orleans Style family event with a silent auction, dinner, live auction, dessert, grab bags, a draw-down for $10,000 and dancing.

Purchase a box of chocolates for $50 for a chance to win a one-year in-parish tuition for the 2007-2008 school year. LSM Republican Club Meeting to Feature Two Speakers

The Lake San Marcos Republican Women Federated will hold their monthly meeting at the Lake San Marcos Country Club on Monday, February 5, beginning at 11:30am. Two speakers will be featured: Sam Antonio will discuss global economics of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA). National speaker and author Jerome R. Corsi will present the impact of the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America (SPP). Both topics deal with the merger of the United States with Canada and Mexico, threatening our sovereignty.

San Diego Chamber Orchestra to Hold "A Notable Affair"

The San Diego Chamber Orchestra Guild will be holding their annual gala for the benefit of the Orchestra. "A Notable Affair" will also honor the notable new artistic director, Jung Ho Pak. The funds raised are used to support the Orchestra's regularly scheduled performances as well as special concerts and educational projects.
The event will be held on Saturday, February 24, at 6pm, at the La Costa Resort and Spa. The Big Band Express will be playing throughout the evening, both dinner music and for dancing. Welk Resort Hosting Escondido Chamber Mixer

Welk Resort will host the next Business After 5 Mixer of the Escondido Chamber. The event will be on Thursday, February 8, from 5pm-7pm, at 860 Lawrence Welk Drive, at the new Canyon Grille Restaurant. Admission is $5/members and $10/guests. Chamber Music Society to Hold Concert

The Lake San Marcos Chamber Music Society (LSMCMS) will be holding a Piano Quartet concert on Sunday, February 11, at 2:30pm, at the Schulman Auditorium, Carlsbad Library, 1775 Dove Lane, Carlsbad (one block north of Alga Rd/Aviara Pkwy, west of El Camino Real). Artists will be Mykola Suk, Piano; Byron Tauchi, Violin; Hanna Suk, Viola, and Andrew Smith, Cello, with program selections from A. Arensky and J. Brahms.

Tickets are $24/general admission and $12/students with I.D. Tickets will be available at the door prior to the event. Escondido Rotary Donates to Palomar YMCA

The Escondido Rotary Club recently presented a check for a $1,000 donation to be delivered to the Palomar YMCA by Rotarian Ken Hugins. Rotarian Alfredo Velasco thanked the Rotary Foundation and said that the funds will be put to good use helping Escondido families. These donations are made possible from funds raised by the Rotary club and Coeur de Cuisine, their annual fundraiser.
