Open Borders Subject to be Discussed at Republican Women's Meeting

On Monday, February 5, starting at 11:30am, the Lake San Marcos Republican Women will meet at the Lake San Marcos Country Club. The program will be a power point presentation about The Nafta Superhighway and the North American Union, regarding open borders with Mexico and Canada, or "Mex-America." New Location Planned for American Business Women's Monthly Meetings

The American Business Women's Association, Soaring Eagles Chapter, will start meeting at the Escondido Country Club, 1800 Country Club Lane, Escondido, on Thursday, February 1, starting at 6:30pm. Cost will be $20/person, plus $5 for raffle tickets.

Save the Date for the Assistance League's Annual Fundraiser

The California Center for the Arts, Escondido, is the place to be on February 17. The Assistance League of Inland North County will be holding their 17th annual luncheon fundraiser. It will be on Saturday, February 17, beginning at 11am, with a silent auction, lunch, and a fashion show by Talbots. This is their major fundraiser to support their many projects; among them being Operation School Bell which donates new school clothes to needy children.

Whelan Lake Bird Walk to be Held Monthly

The Buena Vista Audubon Society has scheduled a Whelan Lake Bird Walk on the first Saturday of every month at 8am. This is a premier birding location and not open to the public. Expect to see an exciting variety of winter visitors. Directions: I-5 to Hwy. 76. East on Hwy. 76 to Douglas Drive. Turn left on Douglas and continue to the traffic light at North River Road. Turn left and meet at the end of the cul-de-sac by entrance gate. The leader will be John Haddock, and he can be reached at 941.7824.

San Marcos Kiwanis to Present Cajun Zydeco Barn Dance

photoThe 2nd Annual Cajun Zydeco Barn Dance will be held on Saturday, March 3, from 6-10pm at the Williams Barn, 1950 Sycamore Avenue, San Marcos. Ticket prices will be $25/person, with dinner, or $15/person for admission only. Advance ticket purchase is recommended as a sell-out is expected for this popular event. Proceeds will benefit the community service projects of the Kiwanis Club of San Marcos Foundation and the recreation programs of the San Marcos Community Services Department.






San Dieguito Lagoon Bus Tours Scheduled

Starting on February 17, then again on March 17, April 14, May 19 and June 16, at 9am and 11am, there will be bus tours of the San Dieguito Lagoon. The events are sponsored by the Friends of the San Dieguito River Valley. The location is the Strawberry Stand Wetland Learning Center, off San Andres Drive in Del Mar. Exit I-5 at Via de la Valle and go east; right on San Andres; park on street and enter at gate.

Learn about the rich cultural history, biological resources and the wetland restoration project now underway in the Lagoon. Tours last about 1.5 hours and will run on the dates listed above. Senior Transition Planners to Meet Today

The Senior Transition Planners is a group of professionals who cater to seniors and their families during times of transition, and are able to design a plan that provides access to free community services as well as appropriate professional advice and services as needed. The group meets once a month at the Claim Jumper in Carlsbad at 11:30 am on the 4th Thursday of the month. This month's meeting is today, Thursday January 25th. Anyone interested in being of service or being a resource to this segment of society is invited to attend.

The Senior Transition Planners also will be participating in the "Tune Up Your Health" fair for older adults at the Temple Adat Shalom in Poway on Wednesday, February 7, from 10am to 2pm. Buena Vista Audubon Planning Bird Watches

Birders of all skill levels are invited to spend a Saturday morning at the Buena Vista Lagoon for a closer look at local birds and interesting winter visitors. Host Tom Troy will help identify birds by sight and sound, with added instruction in the use of binoculars and scopes.

Presented by the Buena Vista Audubon Society, these events are scheduled for the last Saturday of each month, at 8:30am, at the Buena Vista Lagoon landing in Carlsbad. Take I-5 to Hwy 78 East. Candace McKenzie to Speak at Seminar on Dating

A seminar, focusing on dating in the new millennium, has been scheduled for Wednesday, January 31, from 6:45pm-9:30pm, at The Learning Annex, 520 West Ash St., San Diego. Candace McKenzie, "The Dating Dahling" will be the speaker, and the program will discuss various aspects of dating, from when to commit, on-line dating, divorcee/widow dating, asking men out, and other topics. Palomar Family YMCA to Hold Fashion Show

Saturday, February 3, is the date, and from 8pm to 10pm is the time, for a Fashion Show, food, music, raffle, and more, at the Palomar Family YMCA Teen Center, 1050 No. Broadway, Escondido. Proceeds will be used to support the Y's Youth and Government Program.
