Holiday Craft Fair Scheduled for Saturday

The Hidden Meadows Holiday Craft Fair will be held on Saturday, October 28, from 10am to 3pm at the Meadow Lake Golf Club, upper parking lot, 10333 Meadow Glen Way East, Escondido. Go I-15 North and turn East on Mountain Meadow Road up the hill and follow signs to Meadow Glen Way East and to the Meadow Lake Golf Course.

Woman's Club to Hold Bunco Party

Monday, October 30, the Woman's Club of Escondido will hold a bunco party from 1 to 4pm. It is open to the public and will be held at the clubhouse, 751 North Rose Ave. (corner Mission Ave.), Escondido. There will be a dessert buffet, games and prizes. Tickets are $6/person and may be obtained by calling Mary Ann at 480.8280 or Marge at 432.9279.

Assistance League Welcomes New Members



Assistance League of Inland North County recently welcomed 14 new members who will become a part of the 203 members who support this chapter of National Assistance League. Service projects include: Operation School Bell,
Ready . . . Set . . . Read!, Hug-A-Bear, Operation Duffel Bags, and Baby Real Deal. Last year members donated over 23,245 hours of service touching the lives of almost 7,145 children and adults from the inland North County area.

Funds to support these projects are raised in part through sales from the all-volunteer managed and staffed Bargain Box Thrift and Consignment shop at 2068 E. Valley Parkway. The shop is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 to 4. Donations and consigned items are tax deductible and most welcome.

New members are invited to join Assistance League. Various categories of membership are available depending on the amount of commitment each person is able to give. All are welcome. For information log on to:

Rick Roberts to be Guest Speaker at LSM Republican Women's Meeting



The Lake San Marcos Republican Women Federated will welcome guest speaker Rick Roberts, talk show host, at their November luncheon, Monday, November 6. The meeting starts at 11:30am, at the Lake San Marcos Country Club.

The luncheon cost is $20 for members and guests. Reservations due by Thursday, November 2, to Mary Howard at 471-6146. Reservations will not be accepted at the door.

Please bring non-perishable food items for Holiday Dinner Boxes to be distributed by Operation Home Front.

Viejas Casino Fun Day Planned by Castle Creek Women's Golf Club



The Castle Creek Women's Golf Club is hosting a fund-raising day to Viejas Casino. Part of the funds raised will be donated to charity. The date is Thursday, November 16, leaving at 9am from the Castle Creek Golf Course parking lot. The cost is $10/person. San Marcos Lions Club Looking for New Members



The San Marcos Lions Club is looking for people to join their semi-monthly meetings, from 12N to 1pm, on the first and third Thursday of each month, at Lorine's Country Cafe, 752 So. Rancho Santa Fe Drive (corner San Marcos Blvd.). The Lions' Clubs are a service organization recognized worldwide for their service to the blind and visually impaired, and for giving back to the community. Buena Vista Audubon Programs Announced Nature Storytime for preschoolers 3-5 yrs. w/parent: 10am, 4th Monday each month. Songs, crafts included. Free.

Volunteer opportunities include being a host at the Nature Center or participate in education or conservation programs, native plant propagation, bird watching events and field trips. Also needed are volunteers with a variety of computer skills.

Escondido Rotary Delivers Dictionaries to 3rd Graders



Chairpersons Jennifer Walters and Linda Bailey and other Escondido Rotary members recently delivered 1300 dictionaries to 3rd graders in the Escondido School District. This project also was supported by the Escondido East Rotary and The Altruist organizations. Donations for these dictionaries were made possible from funds raised by the Escondido Rotary and their annual Coeur de Cuisine fundraiser. Escondido Rotary meets Tuesdays at 12:10pm at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. For more information, email CJ Szytel at cjszytel@sbcglobal.net.


President Tom Knight recently announced Linda Bailey as Rotarian of the quarter, and said "Linda's involvement with the community and her many duties at Rotary, including chairing Communicating Services, more than qualifies her for this honor."

San Dieguito River Park Activities Planned



"Space Probes," an Astronomy outreach program, Saturday, October 28, with presentations at 6pm, and telescope viewing until 11pm. This event will be at the San Pasqual Battlefield State Historic Park, 1666 San Pasqual Valley Rd., 1.5 miles east of the Wild Animal Park on Hwy. 78. The speaker will be Jay Lavine, Solar System Ambassador from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. (Note: Telescopes and equipment may be unloaded and set up on the observing field. A limited number of telescopes are on site for viewing, courtesy of OPT.)

Boden Canyon - guided hike, Saturday, October 28, from 12N to 4pm. Reservations are required; contact the San Dieguito River Valley Conservancy at 858.755.6956 or sdrvc@san.rr.com for directions and to reserve a space. This will be a moderately strenuous hike.
