"Love Matches"

 

Are you a couple who have been married 50 years or more?  If so, the Escondido Woman's Club and the Escondido History Center have joined together to invite you for a special event to salute couples who have been married 50 years or more.  The event is Sunday, February 12, from 2pm-4pm, at the Woman's Club of Escondido, 751 No. Rose, Escondido. 

The Escondido History Center is celebrating its 50th Anniversary and the Woman's Club its 95th year by honoring couples for their love and devotion of 50 years or more.   For more information, call 743-8207 or 489-9483. 

 

Mandolin Orchestra to Present Concert 

 

On Sunday, February 5, at 3pm, the San Diego Mandolin Orchestra will present a Music Series Concert at the First United Methodist Church, 341 So. Kalmia St., Escondido.  There will be a free-will
offering. 

 

The orchestra is directed by Jim Trepaso, and they will perform a variety of selections from classical, contemporary and ethnic music.  For more information, call Shirley Whipp or Joan Greeno at the church office, 745-5100. 

 

Assistance League Outreach Auxiliary Donates to Lifeline Service

 

The Outreach Auxiliary of the Assistance League of Inland North County has donated over $500 to provide the Palomar Pomerado Health's Lifeline Service to three low-income senior citizens in North San Diego County  and PPH matched the funds.  Because of the lifeline service, many people can now maintain their independence with confidence knowing that if they need help and can't get to a phone they can simply press the Lifeline button they wear and help will be available.

The Outreach Auxiliary of the Assistance League was formed in 1994 to enable women with limited time the opportunity to volunteer in a hands-on manner; to hold fundraising events to serve the community, and participate in the Bargain Box thrift and consignment shop at 2068 E. Chuck Hanlen to Speak at Woman's Club Meeting

 

The Woman's Club of Escondido will meet from 11am to 2pm on Monday, February 6, at the Clubhouse, 751 No. Rose St., Escondido.  The guest speaker, Chuck Hanlen, will speak on Lincoln's assassination.  In addition, Dick Christie of the Senior/Community Gardens will tell about that organization. 

 

Seven past presidents of the Club will be honored at the meeting.  Luncheon cost is $8.  Reserve with Callie Zurcher at 743-5730. 

 

Women's Fellowship to Learn About North County Solutions for Change 

 

The Women's Fellowship of the United Church of Lake San Marcos will host Chris Megison of North County Solutions for Change when they meet on Thursday, February 9, at the Lake Pavilion.  Chris will speak on the exceptional progress they have made caring for homeless families in North County.  This is one of four charities supported by the Women's Fellowship.

Andreas Klein to Present Piano Recital

 

The Lake San Marcos Chamber Music Society has lined up for your enjoyment a piano recital by Andreas Klein with program selection from Mozart, Schubert, and Beethoven.  The event will be held on Sunday, February 12, at 2:30pm, at the Schulman Auditorium, Carlsbad Library, 1775 Dove Lane, Carlsbad (one block north of Alga Road, west of El Camino Real).

Contemporary Women to Install New Officers

Midge Costanza to Speak at Lake San Marcos Democratic Club 

 

The Lake San Marcos Democratic Club will meet Saturday, February 11, at 1pm in the Lakeside Pavilion (Rec Lodge), 1105 La Bonita Drive, Lake San Marcos.   The featured speaker will be Midge Costanza, Director of the Midge Constanza Institute which trains political candidates.  Ms. Costanza's 25 years of public service has been characterized by a strong social conscience and unwavering support of human rights and civil rights issues.  Guests are welcome, and the meeting is open to the public.  For further info contact Betty Ball (752-1035). 

 

 Women for Sobriety

 

Women for Sobriety, a self-help group for women alcoholics, meets Mondays, 6:00pm, at the Kaiser facility in San Marcos.  WFS is not a 12-step program.  For information, call Ann at 724-4474.

 

Toastmasters Meet Weekly

V-Day Escondido/San Marcos Joins Global Effort 

 

On Monday and Tuesday, February 13 and 14, the communities of Escondido and San Marcos will host a V-Day benefit to raise funds and awareness towards ending violence against women.  The event will be a two evening benefit production of Eve Ensler's award-winning play, "The Vagina Monologues" and will be held at the Lake San Marcos Resort, Pavilion Room, starting at 7pm.  This year the V-Day theme is "Vagina Warriors:  The New Revolution" and will honor three local "Warriors" and highlight the work they are doing in the community.  Last year over 1100 communities hosted V-Day benefits around the world raising funds, and have raised over $4 million through these performances.
