Whether by "intellegent design" or evolution, we've been created
and placed on this earth out of no choice, but with the opportunity to make the
most of it. Some circumstances we can
control but more are beyond our grasp.
By fate, some are just more fortunate than others. We all have but one
life on earth and each person should try to make their journey as productive
and happy as possible.
strikes, and it will, like an accident or a reversal in health, asking why me,
what have I done to deserve it, gets us nowhere. By the same token, when
someone else is an innocent victim, could we also ask, why them and not me?? There is no answer and it is unfortunate if a
person futilely uses their burdens to feel sorry for themselves,
which can only lead to discouragement and depression.
When we wish
people a happy, prosperous New Year, in our culture too many of us relate
prosperity to wealth in money and material things. We overlook that the
greatest wealth a person can have is in their heart, not in their pockets. The courage to keep living,
the faith to keep doing, the will to keep going, regardless of the
circumstances. These are the imperishable riches we should not allow to
