Kiwanis Club of San Marcos 4th of July

Blood Drive and BBQ

The Kiwanis Club of San Marcos will hold its Annual 4th of July Blood Drive and BBQ on Sunday, July 4th from 11 am - 4 pm in the parking lot of the Woodland Park Bible Church, 1093 Rock Springs Road in San Marcos.  Last year's blood drive registered 56 donors and Kiwanians hope to exceed that goal this year.

This year's San Diego Blood Bank blood drive highlights Alexis Pellican, an 8 year old Escondido resident who recently received a bone marrow transplant as part of her treatment for Acute Myelogenous Leukemia, a potentially fatal disease she's battled since February of 2003.  In her fight to stay healthy, Alexis needs transfusions.  Donors can help Alexis and patients like her by calling the Kiwanis Club of San Marcos call line at 760-471-3201 to schedule an appointment time from 11 am to 4 pm.  Appointments are honored first and walk-ins are welcome as openings are available.  Donors are encouraged to eat a good meal and drink plenty of fluids before donating blood.

All donors will be awarded a limited edition "Summer 2004 San Diego Blood Donor" T-shirt, a complimentary BBQ lunch courtesy of the Kiwanis Club of San Marcos, a voucher for a complimentary half-day fishing trip courtesy of Helgren's Oceanside Sportfishing, and a chance to enter to win one of several pairs of tickets to a Padres Home Game at Petco Park in August.

BBQ tickets are available the day of the event or may be pre-purchased at Minuteman Press, 273 S. Rancho Santa Fe Road, San Marcos or at Ferris Communications, 1295 Linda Vista Drive, San Marcos.  Adult tickets are $5 and tickets for children under 10 are $2.  The 1:00 - 4:00 pm BBQ event will include free game booths, a jumping house, and entertainment.
